Orange is the New Black star, Taryn Manning, has had quite the busy summer preparing for two new films to come out, Karen and The Gateway.
We all have one (or two) too many “Karens” in our lives, but Taryn Manning’s role is your neighborhood “Karen” on steroids. Karen, available to stream September 3, centers on a racist woman named Karen, played by Manning, who makes it her personal mission to get rid of the new Black family that moved in next door.
But having only one movie come out on September 3 would be light work for Taryn Manning. The Gateway, available on Google Play and Amazon Prime on September 3, starring Olivia Munn, Shea Whigham, and Frank Grillo, is a mystery about a social worker trying to protect his client from her recently paroled husband.
Taryn Manning sat down with the Knockturnal to discuss the new films, as well as what it was like playing such a harsh and cruel character in Karen, and the backlash she has faced since the release of the film.
“So many people have called me out on Instagram and just attacked me about playing this role.” says Manning. “All the while, isn’t that a “Karen” in and of itself to take the time to abuse me for doing this?”
