AleXa Unveils Emotionally Charged Single “sick”

by Serena Khahera February 23, 2024
written by Serena Khahera

AleXa kicks off 2024 with the release of her highly anticipated single, “sick.” This track marks a pivotal moment in AleXa’s career, following her history-making performances at iHeart Radio’s Jingle Ball as the first solo Korean artist in December. Notably, AleXa exclusively performed “sick” during Jingle Ball and on The Kelly Clarkson Show before its official release date, offering a sneak peek into her new era of artistic expression.*

AleXa’s latest single, “sick,” delves deep into the complexities of a toxic relationship, resonating with audiences through its poignant exploration of self-love and worth. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the song, AleXa shares, “”sick” explores the inner turmoil of one side lacking self-love while feeling undeserving of the seemingly perfect partner. It’s about being blinded by rose-tinted glasses in love, unable to fully embrace the love bestowed upon oneself due to low self-worth.”

Throughout the accompanying music video, AleXa embodies the struggle depicted in “sick,” engaging in a metaphorical battle against an idealized version of her boyfriend, representing her liberation from toxic influences. This visual narrative serves as a powerful reminder of the strength found in self-discovery and the pursuit of healthy love.

Unlike any of her previous singles since her 2019 debut, “sick” sees AleXa embracing her early 2000’s pop-punk roots, drawing inspiration from iconic artists like Avril Lavigne. This evolution in her sound reflects a bold and authentic exploration of her musical identity, setting the stage for what promises to be a remarkable chapter in her career. Speaking about this transformative phase, AleXa shares, “This era of my career feels like the most authentic version of myself. “sick” is a departure from my previous releases, and I’m excited to share a side of me that is deeply connected to my pop-punk influences.” As AleXa gears up for a year of continuous artistic exploration, “sick” serves as the inaugural release leading into a series of singles throughout 2024.

Since her rise to musical stardom , AleXa’s career has been characterized by a series of groundbreaking achievements, from her multilingual debut with “Bomb” to her recent performances at prestigious events like the Asia Artist Awards and the iHeart Radio Jingle Ball. Notably, AleXa’s win at the NBC American Song Contest in 2022 solidified her status as a global sensation, further cementing her place in the music industry.

As AleXa continues to captivate audiences with her unique blend of talent and charisma, her future shines bright with promise. With “sick” serving as the catalyst for a new era of artistic exploration, fans can expect nothing short of brilliance from this rising star.

AleXa’s latest single “sick” not only showcases her exceptional musical talent but also highlights her courage to embrace vulnerability and authenticity. As she embarks on this new chapter in her career, AleXa invites audiences to join her on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, one song at a time.

Check out our exclusive interview with AleXa!

[The Knockturnal] “sick” marks a departure from your previous releases, embracing pop-punk influences. What inspired this new direction, and how do you feel it showcases your growth as an artist?

[AleXa] Growing up, I was an emo kid into a variety of alternative music. Punk music has always been near to my heart, and so delving into punk-pop was that most obvious next step for my career.

[The Knockturnal] Can you tell us about the creative process behind “sick” How did you approach writing and producing this song?

[AleXa] While I can’t provide much insight, as I am not the person who wrote “sick”, I will say that recording took several days over the span of several months. I recorded it in LA, in New York, and in Korea. It took so long to decide on the final recording.

[The Knockturnal] You performed “sick” exclusively at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball and The Kelly Clarkson Show before its official release. What was the reaction from fans and audiences, and how did these performances shape your anticipation for the song’s release?

[AleXa] I’m grateful that the general reaction has been positive and that people have been anticipating its official release. I’m always scared and hesitant before new songs are released, but I’m grateful to be taking this first step on a new path of my career.

[The Knockturnal] The music video for “sick” features powerful imagery and symbolism. What was the concept behind the video, and how do you feel it enhances the message of the song?

[AleXa] Fighting your demons, breaking those rose-tinted glasses. The music video is very visually aggressive, very fun to shoot I will say, but I feel like it could be seen as a visual metaphor for tearing down the image of someone that you may be idolizing.

[The Knockturnal] The themes in “sick” are deeply personal, exploring the complexities of toxic relationships and self-worth. What message do you hope listeners take away from the song?

[AleXa] If there’s any message to be taken away from the song, I hope that it’s the fact that self-love should be prioritized over idolizing someone you love.

[The Knockturnal] Winning NBC’s American Song Contest with “Wonderland” must have been a significant moment for you. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the song and how it felt to represent your home state of Oklahoma on such a big stage?

[AleXa] In the instance of “Wonderland”, we wanted to create a song that would have appeal to a general American audience, but still have the KPOP flair. It was a very joyous and emotionally draining occasion, but nonetheless, it is a precious memory that I cherish. If I had to do it all over again, I would. It was one of the most fun experiences of my life.

[The Knockturnal] As someone with roots in both American and Korean culture, how do you navigate the cultural differences and similarities in your music and performances?

[AleXa] The only true difference is the language. No matter where you go, fans are fans, people who enjoy music, enjoy music, no matter what language it’s in.

[The Knockturnal] As the first Korean solo artist to perform at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball, you’ve broken barriers and achieved significant milestones. How do you navigate the pressures and expectations that come with being a trailblazer in the industry?

[AleXa] All I can do is work hard to be the best version of myself that is needed. Every performance leaves me with a desire to become even better for the next stage that I stand on.

[The Knockturnal] What are the top 5 songs on your playlist right now?

[AleXa] I would say: “Dragula” by Rob Zombie, “Affection” by Chrissy Chlapecka, “GLOW” by Snow Wife, “Lie With You” by Ten, and obviously, “sick” by AleXa 😉

[The Knockturnal] Looking ahead, what can fans expect from you in 2024, both musically and in other creative endeavors?

[AleXa] Expect even better music, more stunning music videos, and hopefully a worldwide outreach through touring.

by Serena Khahera February 5, 2024
written by Serena Khahera

K-Pop sensations P1Harmony have just unleashed their much-anticipated first full-length studio album, “때깔 (Killin‘ It),” and it’s nothing short of a musical spectacle. With 10 new tracks, the six-member group, consisting of singer-songwriters KEEHO, THEO, JIUNG, INTAK, SOUL, and JONGSEOB have not only showcased their distinctive style but also marked a significant milestone in their artistic journey. As the album tagline suggests, they are not just “Killin’ It”; they are owning it.

P1Harmony competes on their own terms without compromise, delivering their unique style on their first full-length studio album. The synth-driven title-track, “때깔 (Killin’ It),” sets the tone with a fusion of K-Pop and 90s hip-hop, flaunting a catchy 808 base and well-crafted rap flow. The album is a testament to the band’s evolution and confidence, solidifying their place in the global music scene.

After six EPs, “때깔 (Killin‘ It)” marks a pivotal moment in P1Harmony’s journey. The album solidifies their sound and identity as a group that takes the term “self-produced idols” seriously. All six members actively participated in the album’s production, from writing lyrics to selecting concepts and outfits. This commitment to their craft is evident in the cohesion and authenticity that radiates through each track.

The debut album features 10 new songs written by the band, with JONGSEOB leading the lyric-writing charge. Members KEEHO, JIUNG, and INTAK contributed to various tracks, creating a diverse musical tapestry. From the soulful and refined “Late Night Calls” to the infectious energy of “Everybody Clap,” P1Harmony displays a remarkable range, weaving together sentimental ballads, energetic anthems, and everything in between.

The album takes listeners on a sonic journey, starting with the bold opener “Killin’ It,” a synth-driven anthem that seamlessly blends K-Pop with 90s hip-hop vibes. Each subsequent track adds a layer to the narrative – from the infectious energy of “Everybody Clap” to the tension and chaos of “Emergency.” The album closes with the emotional dedication to their fanbase, “I See U,” a soothing and jazzy ode that showcases the band’s versatility.

P1Harmony’s ongoing evolution has garnered them a dedicated global fanbase, with 4.6 million listeners on Spotify. The release of “때깔 (Killin‘ It)” follows the success of their previous mini-albums, with the band consistently breaking records and charting on the US Top 40 Radio. Their world tour ‘P1ustage H: P1oneer’ across 39 cities further solidified their presence on the international stage.

P1Harmony’s first full-length album is a testament to their dedication, musical prowess, and growth as artists. “때깔 (Killin‘ It)” not only treats fans to what they love about the band but also opens their eyes to the profound potential that P1Harmony possesses. From catchy hooks to profound lyrics, the album is a masterpiece that cements P1Harmony’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the K-Pop landscape.

Check out our exclusive interview with POW!

[Knockturnal] Congratulations on your debut! Your group name is quite unique. What does the team name mean for POW?

[Jungbin] ‘POW’ in English is an onomatopoeic representation of the sound ‘bang!’ The name embodies our aspiration to burst onto the music scene with freshness and excitement. We aim to be a joyful celebration for our fans and the public.

[Knockturnal] You guys just released your first EP ‘Favorite’. What’s the biggest lesson you learned in the process of making this album?

[Hyunbin] We experienced a plethora of emotions rather than just a lesson. Primarily, we came to understand the immense effort and support required from numerous individuals to create an album. It’s an arduous process, with everyone staying up for countless nights to achieve a shared goal. We recognized the profound impact that each choice we make can have on the collective effort. Additionally, we discovered that having fun is a game-changer. All five of us thoroughly enjoyed shooting the music video, and this genuine emotion was well-translated and evident in the final outcome. Judging by the reactions of many people, it was clear that the enjoyment we had resonated.

[The Knockturnal] What was the most challenging part about preparing for the release of this EP?

[Jungbin] Connecting to the depth of the song was at first a challenge. We recognized that there is still much in life that we haven’t yet felt and experienced. Therefore, it became our challenge to ensure that we were genuinely connecting and expressing the soul of the tracks. Ultimately, we reached the point of success through detailed communication with the A&R team.

[The Knockturnal] What do you want fans to take away from your EP ‘Favorite’?

[Hong] We wish to leave lasting impressions in your memories.

[The Knockturnal] What lessons have you learned about teamwork from working and living with each other?

[Dongyeon] A team functions with shared respect, consideration, and clear feedback for one another. We’re also very thankful to Jungbin, our group leader, who dedicates a lot of effort to enhance our teamwork.

[The Knockturnal] What is your biggest career goal you want to achieve this year?

[Hyunbin] We would love to perform on a big stage, such as an awards show. How incredible would it be to grace a stage that wraps up the year as a whole? POW could be ingrained in the memories of the entire 2023 audience.

[The Knockturnal] What is one thing about each of you that your fan base should know about who you are as a person?

[Jungbin] I’m a big thinker, so I tend to invest a lot of time and energy into what I say or do.

[Yorch] I’m a chatterbox, except when I’m with strangers. Please understand that I’m in the process of warming up when I get a little quiet.

[Hong] I’m an affectionate type.

[Hyunbin] Believe it or not, I’m a doer. These days, I’m always thinking about spending as much time as possible with our fans. I’m going to make it happen!

[Dongyeon]  I’m more competitive yet also more affectionate than how I appear at first.

[The Knockturnal] One of my favorite parts about K-pop is how much thought goes into all of the outfits and aesthetics. I especially love the fresh concept of your guys’ Instagram! How would you describe your personal style? And how would you describe the group’s overall style?

[Jungbin]  For me, I want to showcase my bursting energy with just the right amount!

[Yorch]  I love vintage items, and style-wise, I prefer items with loose fits and colors.

[Hong]  I choose looks that compliment my physical features. I like to highlight my looks with a single item like a pair of shoes or a muffler. I find it very unique to draw attention to one spot while neutralizing the rest. But I’m also interested in various styles and referring to other artists.

[Hyunbin]  I try to wear outfits that contrast the mood of my stage looks. That’s why I’ve preferred dark-hued or sharp clothes lately.

[Dongyeon]  For me, I prefer to match the entire outfit to a mood rather than giving one strong point.

[Hyunbin]  Our team inherently exudes a young, boyish spirit, so we’ve been accentuating this point over any manufactured masculinity. Everything is new and exciting for us at this point. Our five distinct characters are well-expressed through different makeup and looks. I’m sure we will showcase a different, new side in our next album.

[The Knockturnal] My favorite track off of the EP is Dazzling. I think it’s such a refreshing song to listen to when I want to relieve my stress. What is everyone’s favorite song off of the ‘EP’ and why?

[Jungbin] I love ‘Favorite‘ the most. I enjoy exercising, and I find that this song gives me an energy boost mid-workout. Besides, we’ve spent the most time dissecting and practicing the track, so I feel that we express ourselves the best with it.

[Yorch] ‘Slow Dancing‘ is my favorite because Jungbin and I participated in writing the song, and personally, I love this type of hip-hop R&B beat.

[Hyunbin] ‘Favorite‘ for me. Our unique charm shines in this track, as it was our pre-release song and, of course, the first-ever track presented to our fans.

[Dongyeon] My favorite is ‘Amazing‘. I feel the energy and power straight from the song whenever I listen to it.

[Hong] ‘Amazing‘. Just the intro itself gives me a feeling in my heart that I can achieve anything in this world.

[The Knockturnal] Obviously you guys’ did an amazing job with the ‘EP’, but aside from your own songs what is one song off of your playlist you would recommend to your fans?

[Jungbin] The song I’ve been listening to a lot these days is Oohyo’s ‘Dandelion’. Beginning with the title itself, I find myself moved by the lyrics. I’d love to make a cover of it someday.

[Yorch] I want to recommend ‘beside you’ by Keshi. I really love this song and it inspired me to jot down some lyrics of my own.

[Hyunbin] I listen to SZA a lot. I want to recommend ‘Snooze’ – Yorch and I listen to this all the time.

[Dongyeon] One Direction’s ‘Drag Me Down’.

[Hong] Bryson Tiller’s songs. He’s my favorite artist nowadays. I especially love the beat from ‘Outside’.

[The Knockturnal] What or who inspired you to become an idol?

[Jungbin] I initially dreamed of being a singer rather than an idol per se. Then, I got scouted by our label. Once I received the offer to audition, I started watching videos of many great idols and became very interested in this path for the first time. I felt it must be wonderful to dance and sing amid cheering crowds, expressing myself freely like them on stage.

[Yorch] I wanted to dance like NCT’s TAEYONG.

[Hyunbin] I first got interested thanks to my sibling. Then, I got hooked and became inspired by TAEYANG’s performances. It became my dream to be an artist who excels in both performance and vocals.

[Dongyeon] I got my first inspiration from watching BTS’s ‘IDOL.’ It struck me how majestic it is to dance on stage.

[Hong] My older sister is a big BTS fan. It was a progressive process for me, from watching many K-pop performances with her to dancing to their choreographies, and so on.

[The Knockturnal] What is your go-to karaoke song?

[Jungbin] 10cm’s ‘Stalker’ and Jung Joon Il’s ‘Hug Me’

[Yorch] Justin Bieber’s ‘Off My Face’

[Hong] Sung Si Kyung’s ‘Every Moment of You’

[Hyunbin] Na Yoon Kwon’s ‘Expectation’

[Dongyeon] Primary’s ‘Baby’

[The Knockturnal] If you could see any artist in concert, dead or alive, who would it be?

[Jungbin] I’d love to see Bruno Mars live. I admire him greatly. I was massively sad to miss his recent concert in Korea due to our pre-debut preparations.

[Yorch] Justin Bieber!

[Hong] I’d love to see BTS.

[Hyunbin] TAEYANG! I loved his songs long before I dreamed of being an idol. I’m starstruck by how he fills up the entire stage by himself with his stage presence.

[Dongyeon] I wish I could have seen Michael Jackson live.

[The Knockturnal] What is one thing you would say to your pre-debut selves?

[Jungbin] Time cannot be bought, so spend it more wisely with no room for regrets.

[Yorch] CHEER UP! You can do it. Many things await you in the future, from more difficult to more joyful. Don’t give up now.

[Hyunbin] Don’t give up and eliminate all laziness.

[Dongyeon] Don’t doubt yourself and be shaken. What you do is the right answer. You are the best.

[Hong] Give your best in everything, Hong.

[The Knockturnal] Where do you guys see yourselves 5 years from now and what do you hope to have accomplished by then?

[Jungbin] I hope we will look back on this period with a smile. I hope all the things happening right now will be remembered as a fun episode in our lives.

[Hyunbin] A world tour joined by POWERs.

[Dongyeon] I’ve started working out recently, envisioning myself as sturdy and firm after five years. Moreover, I hope to have gained better self-awareness by then.

[Yorch] Many concerts and numerous awards.

[Hong] I hope I’m flying all over the world to meet POWERs.

written by Serena Khahera

P1Harmony has once again graced us with their musical powers, releasing the bilingual pop single ‘Fall In Love Again’ on November 9th. The six-member group, consisting of singer-songwriters KEEHO, THEO, JIUNG, INTAK, SOUL, and JONGSEOB, has collaborated with Grammy award-winning producer Tricky Stewart– the mastermind behind hits for Beyoncé, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and more– to deliver a track that seamlessly blends English and Korean in a fusion of captivating sounds. Believve, another key creative force, brings his extraordinary skills to the table, contributing to the song’s undeniable charm.

‘Fall In Love Again’ is a testament to P1Harmony’s evolving musical journey. The track features raps written by members JONGSEOB and INTAK, adding a personal touch to the infectious melody. The song’s unique blend of languages adds an extra layer of richness to the narrative, showcasing P1Harmony’s commitment to breaking boundaries and reaching a global audience. When asked about the inspiration behind their verses, INTAK said, “I got inspiration from the simple but pointy development of the song! So, I utilized the catchy pronunciation that I pursued, which made the recording more amusing!” JONGSEOB, on the other hand, painted a vivid picture, saying, “I thought of an image of a person who has suffered from love, listening to his/her best friend. It would be good to listen to this song as if talking ‘You don’t know yourself that much. Let the person from the past pass by and start over.'”

Following the release, KEEHO shared his nervous excitement about recording the song in a studio outside South Korea, emphasizing the personal and emotional investment in the track. The lyrics, penned by the talented members, convey a matured perspective on love, assuring listeners that falling in love is not something to be feared.

Accompanying the single is a visually stunning music video, showcasing the P1Harmony Love Manipulation Team assisting a client in their quest for love. The video adds a playful and engaging visual element to the already captivating audio experience.

‘Fall In Love Again’ arrives as P1Harmony gears up for two iHeart Radio appearances at the Jingle Ball concerts in Fort Worth, Texas, and Los Angeles, California. The band is also wrapping up their P1USTAGE H : P1ONEER tour in Europe, solidifying their global presence.

Three years since their debut, P1Harmony continues to leave an indelible mark on the music scene. Their latest album debuted at #8 on the Billboard chart, contributing to an impressive 300 million streams on Spotify. The band’s evolution in sound, coupled with their electrifying dance choreography, has garnered them a dedicated fan base across continents.

‘Fall In Love Again’ is a testament to P1Harmony’s ability to create a feel-good anthem without succumbing to clichés. The hypnotic melodies and vocals, coupled with the authenticity of Korean lyrics by JONGSEOB and INTAK, showcase the group’s comfort in staying true to themselves.

ENHYPEN’s Spectacular Second World Tour ‘FATE’: A Night of Vampire-Themed Magic

by Serena Khahera October 16, 2023
written by Serena Khahera

On October 6th, I had the immense pleasure of attending the kickoff of ENHYPEN’s second world tour. ENHYPEN, the sensational South Korean boy band formed through the 2020 survival competition show I-Land, graced the stage at Dignity Health Sports Park for their first-ever stadium performance. Comprising seven exceptionally talented members – HEESEUNG, JAY, JAKE, SUNGHOON, SUNOO, JUNGWON, and NIKI – the group has been making waves since their debut.

The timing of the concert couldn’t have been more perfect, with Halloween just around the corner. ENHYPEN’s vampire-themed extravaganza drew fans from far and wide, all dressed as their favorite vampiric incarnations inspired by the group’s latest EP, “Dark Blood,” released on May 22, 2023. This EP, the fourth in ENHYPEN’s impressive discography, features six tracks, including the haunting lead single, “Bite Me.”

For many fans, including myself, this concert marked the one-year anniversary of their previous encounter with ENHYPEN during the Manifesto Tour, which kicked off in Anaheim at the Honda Center on October 2nd. What truly sets a K-pop concert apart is the meticulous attention to detail poured into the outfits, choreography, set design, VCRs, and every other aspect of the show. ENHYPEN lived up to this reputation, emerging in opulent white-and-gold costumes reminiscent of those featured in their VCR, perfectly complementing their opening song, “Drunk-Dazed.”

The first segment of the night brought fans on a journey through ENHYPEN early albums, with performances of “Let Me In (20 CUBE),” “FEVER,” and an original composition of “Flicker,” delving into the dark and sultry side of their discography. However, what followed was a change in tone, a shift towards sweetness and sentimentality as the group serenaded their fans with personal, heartwarming songs.

Songs like “TFW (That Feeling When)” and “Just A Little Bit” received new, acoustic twists, showcasing the group’s versatility. Members like Jay and Heeseung flaunted their musical talents on guitar and piano, adding an extra layer of intimacy to the evening. Of course, no ENHYPEN concert would be complete without their iconic track, “Polaroid Love,” which showered the audience with pink, heart-shaped confetti, creating a visually stunning climax to this part of the show. Closing out the insanely sweet segment of the show, the night continued with “Go Big or Go Home.”

The final section of the concert was dedicated to their latest album, “DARK BLOOD,” which had achieved astronomical success, reaching the Billboard 200’s top positions. Fans eagerly anticipated seeing these songs performed for the first time in the United States, and the group did not disappoint. The act opened with  B-sides “Chaconne,” followed by “Bills” and “Sacrifice (Eat Me Up),” leaving the audience in awe.

My personal favorite, “CRIMINAL LOVE,” from their stand-alone releases accompanying the boys’ webtoon ‘Dark Moon,’ was a highlight of the night. The show concluded with the “DARK BLOOD” title track, “Bite Me.” Despite a performance spanning almost three hours, the members executed this track flawlessly. Although teary eyed, fans knew this was not the end as the encore was soon approaching.

The encore brought ENHYPEN back to the stage in T-shirts, performing “One in a Billion” and “Karma.” The latter, “Karma,” ended with a spectacular display of crimson fireworks shooting into the night sky, adding a dazzling touch to the already larger-than-life performance. And as a surprise, they delivered a second performance of “Go Big or Go Home” before finally bidding their farewells.

In conclusion, ENHYPEN’s second world tour was nothing short of spectacular, a mesmerizing display of talent, creativity, and passion. The group’s ability to seamlessly transition between their darker hits and heartfelt acoustic renditions left the audience in awe. The night was a testament to ENHYPEN’s ever-growing popularity and their unwavering commitment to their fans.

As the final notes echoed through the stadium, there was a collective sense of fulfillment among the audience. The energy, the music, and the pure joy of that evening left us all craving more. Personally, I can’t wait to hopefully see ENHYPEN for the third time next year, hoping they continue to amaze us with their mesmerizing performances and heartfelt connection with their fans.

Maybe the next tour is sooner than we think! Just yesterday, on October 16th, following their electrifying Texas shows in Houston and Dallas, ENHYPEN made an exciting announcement. The group revealed their comeback with the release of their logo and a teaser for their physical album, ‘ORANGE BLOOD’ giving fans something to ease the “post-concert depression” by having a new era to look forward to.

For those who missed the earlier shows, fear not, as you still have the opportunity to catch their remaining performances in Newark on October 18th and 19th at Prudential Center, and in Chicago on October 22nd at United Center. The magic continues, and ENHYPEN is ready to take you on another incredible journey. Don’t miss it!

K-pop Sensation ‘Twice’ Make History At MetLife Stadium In The New York Tristate Area

by Emerson Unger July 11, 2023
written by Emerson Unger

Fresh off their performance in front of the nation on NBC’s The Today Show, K-pop mega girl group, Twice, took their charms to MetLife Stadium for a very special concert. Making history, the girls were the first K-pop female group to hold a concert at the legendary MetLife Stadium. Twice wowed their super fans, ONCE, with their New York Metro area stop on their 5th world tour ‘Ready To Be” on July 6th, 2023.

The concert kicked off with a short video of the girls. Then in front of a packed stadium, Twice set it off with their song, “Set me Free.” The girls pounced on the stage and grabbed everyone’s attention as they were clad in black and white outfits with sparkly silvery details. The outfits the members wore all were shorts with the exception of our Miss Independent Renaissance Woman herself, Chaeyoung, who opted for pants. They followed the song up with their mega dance hit, “I Can’t Stop Me,” that threw their fans into a frenzy. For their third song, Twice went hard for their song, “Go Hard.” With yellow, orange and red backdrops the girls had black silhouettes driving the song into a hard-hitting dimension. It was clear that the leader of the group, Jihyo, was feeling the song. Not only were her vocals on point but her moves transcended her physical body. With a smile exuding from her it was clear that she was sharing her soul and energy with the audience. Not to be outdone, Nayeon, the groups eldest member, flexed her vocal prowess hitting and holding high notes for this powerful rendition of “Go Hard.”

Just when it seemed like, Twice was hitting a crescendo the girls through the concert in the opposite direction slowing things down and sharing a chillaxed vibe for their cool song, “More & More.” For this song, the girls climbed onto ladders that made triangles, which could be rolled around the stage. With colorful lights projected around them and onto the white ladders it was like Twice was riding a rainbow.  The main dancer of the group, Momo, delighted fans with an iconic dance break before the girls headed down stage to perform their title track, “Moonlight Sunrise,” a song which was inspired by fans. As the girls got closer to their fans moving down stage the aesthetics of twice is light sticks changing color became almost like sparkling diamonds against the setting sun. The girls stayed near their fans downstage as they powered through another epic performance, which had fans screaming and singing along with the girls. Without taking a break the girls dove directly into their song, “Brave.” Again, Jihyo kept killing it when it came to the performance. During her solo she hit the high notes and held them. Then the girls took a well-deserved water break to chat with fans. During the fan chat they asked what was your favorite song of the previous songs that they just saying. They tried to quiz the audience and decipher from the audience response what song they like the best. During this time, Chaeyoung admitted that this was one of the first times they perform their song “Brave” during the daylight outside. She joked that she missed performing it in the dark because it was edgier and cooler that way. It was also during this time that Nayeon teased the audience and wanted them to show how much they love Twice by singing along with the girls in a call and response manner to the song “Moonlight Sunrise.”  Jihyo followed that up by asking the audience to do a ginormous wave that took over the whole entire stadium. The girls expressed how hot it was, but how happy they were to see their fans in the daylight. It was at this moment that Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung stayed on the stage while the other Twice members gently disappeared. Right before going off stage. Jihyo joked that there was something special coming but the audience might have already guessed what it was or could’ve looked it up online.

As the foursome walked off stage, the stage became dark. When light reappeared, the group’s lead rapper, Dahyun, appeared sitting at a piano dressed in a flowing gorgeous white with blue accent dress. She looks like a beautiful aqua Angel as she played the piano and sang, Colbie Caillat’s “Try.” Continuing on and the girl’s individual solo songs for this site was the Maknae of the group, Tzuyu. Performing mid stage in a gorgeous jumpsuit she busted out moves and even bent down on one knee for her rendition of Charlie Puth’s “Done for Me.” Up Next was the gorgeous visual of Twice, Sana. Wearing a red collared long sleeve shirt/tunic with black tights and a bodysuit she charmed the audience with her verison of Dua Lipa’s “New Rules.” Dancing her way into the fans’ hearts main dancer of the group, Momo, busted out on stage wearing a sparkling jersey top and shorts for her rendition of Beyoncé’s “Move.” During mid song she changed everything up, shedding her jersey revealing her crop top and shorts she took to a pole. High above the audience she swirled around the pole as if she was channeling her inner J Lo circa her Super Bowl performance. Closing out these solo stages in this set was Mina covering Ariana Grande’s “7 rings.” She strutted and showed off her dance moves in a white cropped sparkly top with denim shorts and high thigh bright pink boots. As she danced around her dancers shot fake dollar bills into the sky. At the end of this solo set a video appeared on the screen of the girls singing a minimalistic version of their big hit, “Feel Special.”

After the video, Live musicians in the band appeared on stage and began to play this song, “Feel Special.” Twice then reappeared on stage rocking new outfits and belting out the song. At the conclusion of this song, the girls jumped right into their song, “Cry for Me,” before delivering a rock rendition of their big hit, “FANCY.” For “FANCY,” the stage was bathed in pink with fiery unapologetic hyper feminine energy. To close out the set before the break, the girls delivered a colorful beautiful almost prismic stage for their song, “The Feels.” During the song images of the girls singing live captivated the audience with gorgeous colorful images. At the conclusion of the song, lead rapper, Dahyun joked with the audience. She teased saying could you say that we’ve done something new for this concert? She confessed is the first time that twice has ever used a live band. She shared in her excitement with how Twice has evolved as artists, now incorporating live instrumentals. The girls quickly exited the stage as it became dark again.

When the lights came up on stage, Chaeyoung was sitting alone on a wooden barstool with guitar in hand. She looked like a little red riding hood and a beautiful simple dress with red details. Her sweetness exuded while she sang, “My Guitar.” Up next, Jihyo took to the stage for her solo performance of nightmare with haunting rock vocals and dressed all in black she exuded emotion. Delivering a 180, Jeongyeon changed up the vibe completely in a bright green jumpsuit. She brought down the house with fun vibes and positive energy as she covered Lizzo’s “Juice.” In a iconic certainly memorable moment she even attempted to play a recorder channeling Lizzo’s flute playing prowess. Certainly was a hilarious and fun uplifting moment that made the audience giggle with glee. Rounding out this solo stage set was the one the only Nayeon. With deliciously decadent filled to the top with confectionery pop, she belted out her hit song “Pop.” Was clear that the audience was feeling her vibe and returning her fun energy with confetti flying everywhere. Another video Break gave the girls a chance to change things up. When they returned the stage they performed, “Who Am I?” and “Queen of Hearts,” before heading into a medley of their biggest hits.

Clad in denim outfits the girls kicked off their iconic hits medley said with their monster hit, “Yes and Yes.” They followed it up with, “What is Love,” and “Cheer Up.” When it was time to sing, “Likey” the group started the song from Dahyun and Chaeyoung rap section before letting Mina belts out her solo bridge and Momo did her iconic dance break for the song. The girls went on to perform their songs” Knock Knock,” “Scientist” and “Heart Shaker,” which concluded with the girls jumping up and down with glee just as they did in the music video for the song.

Courtesy of Instagram

After the medley the girls took a moment to acknowledge the history that was being made at the concert. They admitted it was a little over a year ago that they re-signed with their label JYP and now they are playing at one of the biggest stadiums in North America. They thanked the fans for such a historic moment and beautiful memory. As the sun had finally set twice kick things into high gear for their last couple of songs.

As the show drew to a close, they treated the audience to “Alcohol-Free” and“Dance the Night Away.” For these two songs, the girls really amped up the energy as if to say we know we’re coming down the homestretch and so we’re just gonna take it home for the win. The concert hit a crescendo when twice performed their megahit from last summer, “Talk That Talk.” Wearing cream outfits lights around with the girls that reflected with rainbows on giant screens. The stage ended with fireworks being shot off right behind the girls before they disappeared backstage.

As the girls were transitioning into a new set the fans had a chance to interact with one another. Projected on big screens a dance battle was set. The audience was challenged to show off their best iconic Twice dance moves. Whether it was fans competing with themselves or fans competing with other fans, it was clear that everyone was winners as the audience became so hyped cheering everyone on. Obviously, there were some fans who clearly knew all the Twice moves to the point that you could swear they were JYP trainees. Then the girls reappeared on stage. Twice were decked out in Twice T-shirts with childhood photos of them laid out in a newspaper format projected behind them as they performed their song, “When We Were Kids.” The sweet sentiments continued as the girls finished the show with the song, “CRAZY STUPID LOVE.” They said goodbye to fans each girl took a moment to acknowledge how much they loved the fandom. Again, they acknowledged it was one year ago that they signed the contract and then they found themselves performing at MetLife Stadium. Sana noted how amazing it was to see their fans in the daylight and in the Moonlight as the concert spend several hours while the sun set in the New York sky. It was this moment in which Momo took the time to tease the fans about Twice is subunit made up of Sana, Mina, and Momo. Now the subunit did not sing any of their new music which will be released later this summer, but they did give a sneak peek to a dance move that will accompany their new song. Jihyo Remarque just how proud she was of this new subunit. The girls then took a moment to do a K-pop classic concert staple, take a picture with their fans. They grab the camera and hand the girls huddled together with all their fans in attendance behind them to snap several photos and savor this historic moment.

Though the concert was unofficially over, Twice was not ready to leave their fans empty-handed. Pulling out a giant wheel, they left their encore performance in the hands of fate. The wheel displayed some of Twice his classic songs that the girls hadn’t had a moment to perform yet. Getting into the vibe Jeongyeon couldn’t help but spin the wheel in between taking photos with her camera. The first song the giant wheel landed on was “Scandal” followed up by twice is iconic song “Like OOH-AHH.” It was during these two songs that the girls ran around waving at fans trying to savor every moment and draw them closer. After both songs, Chaeyoung couldn’t help but spin the wheel for the final time. She acknowledged she wanted to land on the song, “Firework,” but kept landing on songs that twice had just performed. But the third time was the charm, and she got her wish. Twice finished out the show by performing their song “Firework.”

The girls took a few moments before heading off stage to savor the moment for one last chance with their fans. The last to leave the stage looked like it would be Jeongyeon until she ran into Dahyun, who pushed her back on stage. The two laughed and giggled and proceeded to head off stage for the final time before Dahyun turned around and promised that Twice would be back to New York and motioned as if to ask for the fans to wait for their return.

Twice made up of the nine members of now take a quick break. They will return to the stage in September in London to kick off their international European leg of their tour. That performance will take place on September 7 at London’s iconic O2 Arena.

ITZY Shows Up & Shows Out For ‘Head In The Clouds New York’

by Emerson Unger May 22, 2023
written by Emerson Unger

It’s hard to deny ITZY’s awesomeness. When the girls were slated to take to the Forest Hills Stadium stage for 88rising’s first-ever Head in the Clouds New York Festival it seemed like such a blessing that the rain that seem to consume the whole day ceased and stopped. Now, it is not that the girls single-handedly talked to mother nature and made the skies open up and bring sunshine, but their infectious energy certainly made those in attendance forget all about the rain.
