Tina Fey plays a journalist recounting her time covering war events in Afghanistan and Pakistan in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. And if that sentence did not make you jump out of your seat, then there’s something wrong with you, and the only cure is more cowbell.
The SNL alum will not be starring in a war drama, but rather, and to our relief, a war comedy, which will star a number of comedic actors including Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, Margot Robbie, Josh Charles, Alfred Molina, Nicolas Braun, and Sheila Vand.
Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the film was adapted by Robert Carlock based on Kim Barker’s memoir, The Taliban Shuffle, the journalist Fey will be portraying. Slated to have a March 4, 2016 debut, Freeman will star as a Scottish love interest for Fey’s character, both of whom are stuck covering the events unfold during the war.
Lorne Michaels comes in to produce, thus reuniting the Michaels-Fey-Carlock (writer and producer of 30 Rock) union that many have come to enjoy. The project started filming in New Mexico in February and is now in post production, so it should not be that long until we get some stills or teasers from the film.
