The romantic dramedy Sweethearts, directed by Jordan Weiss, is shaping up to be one of the year’s most buzzworthy releases. Starring Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga, the film is a heartwarming and hilariously chaotic story about two mismatched individuals who find themselves thrust together on a journey neither of them expected.
The story follows Millie (Shipka), a perfectionist on the brink of a personal and professional breakdown, and Leo (Hiraga), an easygoing free spirit whose life philosophy is to avoid anything resembling responsibility. When a series of unusual events forces them to work together, their clashing personalities turn into undeniable chemistry.
The film blends witty humor with raw emotional depth, offering audiences an exploration of what happens when two people challenge each other’s worldviews and, perhaps, help one another grow in the process. Weiss, known for her work on Dollface, brings her sharp comedic timing and knack for nuanced relationships to the big screen.
Fans of both Shipka and Hiraga are in for a treat, as the duo’s on-screen chemistry is nothing short of electric. Shipka’s ability to portray vulnerability and strength, combined with Hiraga’s laid-back charisma, ensures this film will leave audiences rooting for these “sweethearts” long after the credits roll.
The Knockturnal caught up with the two stars, as well as Writer, Director and EP’s Jordan Weiss and Dan Brier, to chat about the new film. Check it out below:
