TheKnockturnal was on the scene for the “Supermodel” premiere at ABFF.
New film Supermodel premiered at the American Black Film Festival to a crowd of excited guests along with the film’s cast and crew, which includes Datari Turner, Sessilee Lopez, Tyson Beckford, Tatyana Ali, Fat Joe, Angela Simmons, Toccara Jones, Nichole Galicia, Marc John Jefferies, Adam Senn, Melissa De Sousa, Cassandra Freeman and Roger Guenveur Smith.
Supermodel is a film written by Datari Turner about a promising aspiring model named Chloe, who may have what it takes to be a supermodel. She has that “it” factor. On her way to fame and glory, Chloe struggles with taking care of her alcoholic mother and homeless father. The movie highlights the dark side of being a model, such as constantly being judged for one’s race and weight, and having to use drugs like cocaine in order to have energy for photo shoots. The movie takes a satisfying turn when Chloe stands up for what she believes in, no matter what direction the modeling business is trying to pull her in. The cast and crew really hope that this film turns into a pilot for a show about African Americans in the fashion industry. They hope the show becomes the next Empire. Supermodel has such a strong message that brings awareness to racism in the fashion industry.
