SuperM Shares How They Have Evolved With ‘Super One’

It’s been less than a year since SuperM debuted with their mega-hit, “Jopping.”

Now, the group, A.k.a. the avengers of K-pop, have returned with their soon to be release full studio album Super One. We caught up with the group on the heels of the release of their two singles, “100” and “Tiger Inside,” and as the group was going to release the third single, “One,” which is a mash-up of their songs, “Monster” and “Infinity.”

It’s clear with 17 tracks under their belt of fresh new music that SuperM has evolved with their latest offering. The leader of SuperM, Baekhyun, hinted that this evolution was not an easy one, but one that the group welcomed. “We were kind of able to stretch our limits even more,” he said. Baekhyun explained, “We released “100” then we released “Tighter Inside” and now we’re releasing the title track “One.” So each of these songs… has great concepts and great choreography, and… putting all of that together was really challenging, to be honest. [But] we were able to just come together as a group and face that together.”

The youngest member of SuperM, Mark, acknowledged that the group felt pressure with this album, which made them worked even harder. Despite SuperM’s number-one success with their first EP a year ago, Mark explained, that “success only motivated us to really work harder on this album.” He added, “we put double the amount of effort we did on our last album on this album. We believe that the quality went up that much and we can’t wait for our fans to listen to Super One.”

SuperM’s veteran member, Taemin, shared that the group has evolved Not only working together as a team but also experimenting with different sounds and genres of music. “We were able to kind of put together the harmony within between the members way better than we did initially because everyone is just so skilled [in working together now], Taemin said. “But I think with this new album, we were able to kind of experiment more, and try out these different genres and see how that all comes together, he explained.

SuperM’s sound has certainly evolved with their new album Super One, but that’s not the only thing that has changed or matured over the last several months. Baekhyun even acknowledges that the group message has matured . He stated, “In terms of the sound of the music, we wanted to make sure to relay the message of positivity, rather than just focus only solely on the performance, but this was an album where we’re able to focus on the messaging more. So, I think we’ve matured in that sense.” SuperM’s Kai, shared the same sentiment. Recounting all the times that SuperM’s member had employed modes of transportation to show off their individual charms, he said, “We really hope that just like these modes of transportation takes you somewhere [that you always see in our music videos] that our songs and our music and this album, can be that mode of transportation to take you to a place of hope and to take you to like that higher place where everyone can enjoy themselves and happy.

You can check out SuperM’s musical evolution and how the group has evolved, when their new album Super One drops on September 25, 2020 by SM Entertainment and Capitol Records.
