SummerStage 2017 Lineup Announced: Bringing Out Hip-hop’s Biggest Names

SummerStage is back and the Hip-hop and R&B lineup for the year is insane!

SummerStage 2017 has a lot in store for this summer. City Parks has put together a showcase for the summer that includes a ton of genres and disciplines, including dance, theatre, poetry, opera, salsa, bhangra, indie-rock, Latin, jazz, R&B and hip hop! The dates and names have been announced, and shows run from May 17 to September 28. There will be more than 100 FREE and benefit shows across New York City. More than 150 artists are performing this summer including KRS One, Digable Planets, Jadakiss and many more.

There are may surprises in store for the year besides the concerts. This year SummerStage will have interactive workshops with many different kinds of lessons for people to indulge in this summer. For those interested in Hip-hop and DJing,SummerStage will host a DJ lesson from Scratch DJ Academy and a beatboxing tutorial with renowned beatboxer Exacto before the Digable Planets performance in Coffey Park. This opportunity and many more will be available for SumerStage show goers and the SummerStage Directors encourage everyone to come out and enjoy!

  • 7/7 – Slick Rick The Ruler / GrandWizzard Theodore (Springfield Park)s
  • 7/16 – Capone-N-Noreaga in association with Lyricist Lounge (Queensbridge Park)
  • 7/23 – GZA in association with Lyricist Lounge (Corporal Thompson Park, SI)
  • 7/30 – Rock Steady Crew 40th Anniversary (Central Park)
  • 8/6 – Jadakiss (Crotona Park)
  • 8/19 – Jim Jones (Marcus Garvey Park)

R&B / Funk

  • 6/3 – Mavis Staples (Central Park)
  • 6/11 – George Clinton / Main Source / DJ Marley Marl hosted by Roxanne Shante (Corona Park)
  • 6/15 – The Bowery Presents Elvis Costello & The Imposters (Central Park)
