Producer and writer Shonda Rhimes is teaming up with online streaming network Netflix and bringing her Shondaland production company with her for a multi-year deal.
Shondaland, which produces award-winning and critically-acclaimed seriesβ such as Scandal, Greyβs Anatomy, and How To Get Away With Murder, will continue to produce these shows while also producing new seriesβ and other projects with Netflix. All three of these shows will continue to be available on ABC in addition to being available on Netflix.
“Shondalandβs move to Netflix is the result of a shared plan Ted Sarandos and I built based on my vision for myself as a storyteller and for the evolution of my company,β Rhimes said. βTed provides a clear, fearless space for creators at Netflix. The future of Shondaland at Netflix has limitless possibilities.β
Netflix, which has over 104 million members from over 190 countries, is βa vibrant new storytelling home for writersβ that offers distinct creative freedom, Rhimes said describing why she decided to make the move. Rhimesβ long-time producing partner, Betsy Beers, will join her in her move to Netflix.
