Get ready to laugh your pants off

On Wednesday, September 14, Seeso hosted a viewing party of their newest program, Debate Wars. Hosted by comedian Michael Ian Black, this show is trying to promote the traditional debate format in the best way possible. The inspiration is founded in a classic high school debate. You have two teams, you each have opposing arguments, and your goals is to make your opponent look like an idiot.  And in this show, they are doing just that.  However, instead of serious topics, the teams will be debating the most random, but still just as pressing, topics.  The first two episodes of Debate Wars were screened and our first impression is that it is amazing.  Having two comedians on each team, this show brings back the beauty and style of debate in the funniest way possible.  Each episode will have a topic, and the format of the show is that each team gives an opening statement, a rebuttal, and then a closing statement.  After that, they will be interrogated by Michael Ian Black.  And then lastly, they will have to summarize their entire argument in one word.

The first episode’s debate was centered on cake vs pie.  A notable and rising comedian on team pie was Aparna Nancherla who completely dominated her opening argument portion by equating the loving of cake to white privilege.  One of the best lines from her was ‘cake is the straight white male of desserts.’  One notable comedian on the cake side was Judah Friedlander who often went off topic which surprisingly added to his argument.  We won’t ruin who won the first debate but it was a landslide. But nonetheless, this episode was hilarious and needs to be seen by everyone.

The second episode’s debate topic was babies vs old people.  This topic has been on everyone’s mind.  Sure, babies are cute and adorable but they poop and cry all the time.  But on the other hand, old people are cute too, but they just wreak of death and decomposition.  So we were excited to see the outcome of this debate. On the babies side, Mehran Khaghani brought the heat with his pointed arguments and his ability to charm the pants off of the audience.  However, on team old people, famous comedian and professional yeller Gilbert Gottfried was coming out strong.  His most memorable quote for why babies suck was ‘If babies are so great, then why has every woman I’ve knocked up gotten an abortion?’  That line was pure genius and we loved it so much.

Debate Wars is such a fun and humorous show. This show will make you cry from laughter.  And the only place that you can watch it is on Seeso so go subscribe and enjoy the best that comedy has to offer.
