Art, NFTs, and the Oceanside…
SCOPE International Contemporary Art Show returned with a colorful splash to the Miami Art Week scene during this year’s Art Basel which ran between Nov 30th – Dec 5th. There’s a reason SCOPE is one of the fan favorites of Art Week. Located on Ocean Drive and 8th Street one can’t help feel instantly cool walking up to the massive white tent conveniently nestled in front of Miami beach. This year’s theme, The New Contemporary Presents, highlighted a range of contemporary artists from around the globe. While NFTs may have been the buzz in the art world this year, surprisingly there were few and far between on display at SCOPE. Instead, installations, sculptures, and large scale paintings lined the walls inspiring conversations throughout the venue.
Immersive installations like 100 created by Mr. E had a line of people waiting upon entry while artist Nychos pokes fun of pop culture and anatomy with their large scale painting of Baby Yoda. Both artworks are incredibly fun and a good representation of the diverse voices SCOPE has to offer this year.
The New Contemporary Presents also hosted daily programs for patrons that included outdoor yoga, guided meditation, and moderated panels. The evening program, Sunsets by SCOPE, provided music and cocktails by ABRA and GREY GOOSE Vodka. Art lovers could leisurely walk through the galleries, pick up a craft cocktail, and vibe to the infectious beats from surprise musical guests.
Overall, the return of live events like Art Basel has created excitement within the art community once again. While we could all swipe through the latest memes and decode the mysteries of NFTs for ourselves, there is nothing quite like an in person event. Here’s to many, many more!
