Schmackary’s Union Square Brings Beloved Cookies Off-Broadway

You may have spotted Schmackary’s in Only Murders in the Building Season 3 or frequented the spot for a treat in-between Broadway shows — but on Feb. 1, the iconic Hell’s Kitchen cookie shop headed downtown.

On Feb. 1, Schmackary’s opened a new location in Union Square, taking its eclectic menu along with it.
Schmackary’s is known for its daily rotating menu of over 100 flavors, combining classics with seasonal favorites and even Broadway-inspired treats. Currently, Valentine’s Day offerings include Chocolate Explosion, Chocolate Covered Strawberry and Strawberries & Cream.

Unlike big-name cookie chains like Crumbl or Insomnia Cookies, Schmackary’s cookies pack unique flavors while still evoking the nostalgia of a home-baked treat. Their buttery Funfetti is a fan favorite for a reason, packed with rainbow sprinkles and a dollop of their sweet vanilla frosting. The cookies are perfectly textured, with a crispy exterior and soft inside that complements the snap of the sprinkles. If you’re a fan of chocolate and peanut butter, the vegan Peanut Butter Cup brings an equally exciting texture throughout, swapping smooth peanut butter for a crunchy counterpart.

The Mocha Java cookie is another standout on Schmackary’s menu, with a dark chocolate espresso cookie base topped with vanilla latte frosting, which tastes exactly like a scoop of coffee ice cream. Surprisingly, the coffee doesn’t overpower the mocha flavor and instead brings out the richness of the dark chocolate.

Fans of white chocolate are in luck: current flavors Red Velvet and White Island highlight the silky smooth chips, offering a more diverse variety than your usual cookie store. Salty, buttery Macadamia Nuts and white chocolate are elevated with coconut in the White Island cookie, bringing a lighter alternative to the richer offerings on the menu.

But while Schmackary’s has clearly mastered the art of a diverse menu, you can’t beat The Classic, a perfectly salty-sweet chocolate chip cookie that feels unmistakably similar to the ones you’d eat on special occasions after school. It’s a classic for a reason, deserving of a spot on your plate alongside its more adventurous counterparts. But if you want chocolate chip with some extra pizzazz, the Sch’mores cookie is a perfect medium between familiar taste and Schmackary’s more unique menu. Its honey graham base is a subtly sweet vessel for the melty chocolate chunks and roasted marshmallow garnish, tasting like a night around the campfire in the middle of bustling New York City.

Since 2012, Schmackary’s has proven a mastery of flavors familiar and fresh that’s sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. The Union Square location is sure to become a staple in the area, and for good reason. Share a box or keep the whole thing to yourself — either way, you’re in for a treat.
