WNBA Legends Rebecca Lobo, Dawn Staley, and Sheryl Swoopes were thrilled about the WNBA draft and its 20th birthday.
All three legends are truly thankful that the WNBA has persisted this long. “It’s a thankful time, I have the chance to play in this league, against friends and some of my former players. It’s a gift that continues to give to our female athletes.” Says Staley.
“All of us were hopeful that this league would last this long. Now that we have 20 years to look back on we can look towards the future and think about how it would look 20 years from now. For Example: What would the athletes look like? What kind of salaries would they receive? How popular it would be? ” – Rebecca Lobo
“I don’t think any of us could look this far and actually imagine how the league would be today. We were all just thrilled and excited to have an opportunity to play professional basketball here.” – Sheryl Swoops
I agree with Lobo, Staley, and Swoopes. When they played in the WNBA it barely had any history behind it. The growth is unbelievable and speaks volumes of where it will be another 20 years from now. The talent is getting better every year and it’s only a matter of time until the league expands.
