WWE Summerslam held its press conference after the show and we were able to go there to attend it.
The stars that attended were Cody Rhodes, Dakota Kai, IYO Sky, Paul Heyman, LA Night, and Chief Content Officer, Triple H.
Cody Rhodes has made it clear he wants to finish the story by winning the WWE Championship and becoming the first Rhodes family member to do so. Rhodes turned his attention to Brock Lesnar after losing to Reigns at WrestleMania 39. It will be interesting to see where Rhodes takes his career after his feud with Lesnar is over.
Following his win against Lesnar at SummerSlam, Rhodes addressed his future plans at the post-show press conference, while also trying out the new C4 Energy flavors:
“We were talking about finishing the story. Now the thing that I’ve been saying to myself, saying out loud while I’m laying on the mat, is ‘get back!’ I wanna get back to the same situation I was in, the same scenario I was in, and fix that outcome,” Rhodes said. “I’m not gonna say specifically what that is, but we can all read between the lines, and the journey to get there is dang near next to impossible, it really is. Really, really is, including three with Brock Lesnar. But that would be what I would hope, but again, [I’m] consistently surprised, so you really never know. With me on Monday nights, you never know.’
The attention surrounding the premium live event revolved a great deal around the match between Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch, which was billed as one of the main events of the event. Due to time constraints, their SummerSlam bout was reportedly pulled from the card.
There was a discussion that was brought up by Emily Mae of Sportskeeda Wrestling during the post-Summerslam press conference about this discourse. She asked Triple H how he pushes women in his career. This is what Triple H said:
“My take on that is the same as it’s always been on that. I don’t see the difference. I look at the women in WWE just like I look at the men in WWE. They’re talent,” Triple H said. “It’s irrelevant to me if they’re female talent, male talent, it doesn’t matter to me. I put the same amount of thought, put the same amount of process, and are just looking for the things that are delivering in the moment. I said it when they did it. When women main-evented WrestleMania, it was because they were the main event of WrestleMania. We didn’t make them the main event of anything. This has been for me through TakeOvers and NXT and all of it.”
WWE SummerSlam matches getting cut was another topic brought up by Triple H. According to him, no matches had been cut since the card hadn’t been announced. As a result of injuries or other changes, it’s important to have more prepared. Moreover, Triple H emphasized the duration of WWE’s SummerSlam.
In the Slim Jim sponsored battle royal during Summerslam, LA Knight emerged victorious. When I asked him about the commercial that aired following his victory, he gave me the following response:
“As soon as I won the match, they sent me through time, filmed the commercial, and then the thing was up there, it was amazing, I don’t even know how they did it. So, it was kind of crazy how that all worked out, but here we are,” LA Knight told us.
During the WWE Women’s Championship match at Summerslam, IYO Sky made the most of her money-in-the-bank contract and defeated Bianca Belair to become the new WWE Women’s Champion.
At the press conference, Dakota Kai addressed her injury status and when she would be back in the ring.
“I just had to be here for IYO Sky tonight,” said Dakota Kai. “I’m still a ways a way from being in-ring cleared, but I had to be here tonight.”
