On The Scene: The Dry Challenge x Lamalo Brunch

Last Saturday, “The Dry Challenge” author Hilary Sheinbaum, invited The Knockturnal to a fabulous brunch at Lamalo at the Arlo NoMad hotel.

In celebration of Sober October, the event gave attendees a sneak peak of the restaurant’s non alcoholic cocktails, which launch on the menu this Saturday, October 1. The mocktails served were Satisfaction (damrak, oleo saccharum, citrus shrub) and Born to Be Wild (damrak, watermelon, basil, lemon).

The brunch was also hosted by Freixenet, which launched its Alcohol Free Sparkling White and Rosé in 2020. Freixenet Alcohol Free Sparkling White and Rosé are produced in the Penedès DO of Spain, which is also home to Freixenet’s Cava. The two fresh, fruit-forward sparkling wines containing 0% to 0.05% alcohol and offer a bubbly alternative for celebrations or any occasion enjoyment alike.

The food at Lamalo was superb. We got to sample almost the entire brunch menu, which included Jerusalem Jaffa (everything bagel seasoning), Herb Salad (mint, arugula, dill, cilantro, radish, cucumber, parsely, carrot), Hummus & Mushrooms (chickpeas, sesame, warm mushrooms), Cauliflower & Potato (fried cauliflower, olives, onion, lemon aioli), Egg Salad (hard boiled eggs, aleppo pepper, onion), Syrian Cheese (nigella seeds, sesame, honey), Grilled Avocado (fresh citrus, aleppo pepper) and falafel cigar (brick pastry, falafel, tahini). As a vegetarian, it was so exciting to see so many great brunch options.

For my main course, I had the Sabich (fried eggplant, soft boiled eggs, green tahini, amba).

For dessert, we had the Malabi (Rose Milk Custard, Pistachios). Everything was so tasty and we highly reccomend this hidden gem.

Over food and NA/alc removed bevs, we learned more about Better Without, an app powered Better Rhodes which helps users find local bars and restaurants that serve NA/alc removed beverages.

And, after noshing and sipping, we went home with a Sober October goodie bag featuring some Lamolo Tahini and crackers and a bottle of Freixenet.

All in all it was a fabulous event!
