Disney’s newest film provides the sweetest message: you are so much more than your gifts.
Living in the beautiful country of Columbia, The Madrigals are anything but ordinary. They live in a magic house, and at the top of the second floor there lies a candle that is a representation of the greatest miracle to ever happen to the family. Once they turn five, there is a gift ceremony for every Madrigal child, for them to receive their gift. Everyone has one, weather it’s be strength, beautification, super hearing, and so many more, besides one. Mirabel Madrigal never received her gift, and has been the black sheep of the family ever since. Though she sticks out in ways she wishes she didn’t, Mirabel soon realizes that the magic of her family is in grave danger, and it’s up to her to save it. The film’s music was done by Broadway Icon Lin Manuel Miranda, and it creates an immersive look into the lives of the Madrigal family and the beautiful country of Columbia. Lin talks about how he learned so much more about the country through the journey to bring this story to life on the big screen.
