Epic Records invited us to watch one of their recent signees’ John K perform in his first show in New York.

The show was held at the Mercury Lounge, which was a nice intimate venue especially for a new artist to engage with the audience. John K was excited to perform at his first sold-out show as well. John K’s sound is pop with heavy influences from R&B, which was able to bring more emotion into his songs. He has a great voice, which was complimented by his live band and also was able to have great stage presence throughout his performance. Throughout the show John K opened up to the audience by giving us some insight about his life and music. He performed a song called “Love You More” for his wife who was in the crowd while playing the piano. John K also told us that he has a necklace with the number 12 on it that his manager gifted him since he always wanted his performances to be a 12 out of 10, and now he lives by that for everything. John K told the audience that 2020 is going to be a big year for him and that we were here to witness something special tonight. He finished up his hour-long set with his most popular song “If We Never Met” and thanked the crowd and his Epic Records family.

John K released a new version of “If We Never Met” with Grammy Award nominated country superstar Kelsea Ballerini. John K always thought about the song as a duet and that’s why he decided to get Kelsea for it. Kelsea already was a fan of John’s and enjoyed the song also so it was a no brainer for her to collaborate on it. The original version of “If We Never Met” continues to hold a spot in the Top 15 at Hot AC and is nearing 60 million streams. “If We Never Met” was already an important song to John K but having this feature makes it very special and 2020 is off to a great start for him.
