Alvin Ailey is continuing to kick off its dance season with Ailey II’s New York Season At The Ailey Citigroup Theater!
The enticing performance is led by seasoned Ailey dancer and artistic director, Francesca Harper. Francesca Harper introduces us to her esteemed body of work, featuring Aileyโs rising stars showcasing their passion, talent, and artistry. The program was broken into three main dance breaks titled, Psลซkhe, Enemy in the Figure, and Freedom Series.ย โI feel deeply fortunate and grateful to have grown up at Ailey.โ Says artistic director Francesca Harper in a special post leading up to the performance. โThe humanism Alvin provided, and the foundation that the school provided, grounded and empowered me.โ Harper said. โCreating the work Freedom Series was my love letter to Alvin and the Ailey organizationโ she said. The choreography is an inspiration from her Ailey homecoming. The dance explores time travel through a landscape to influence the future.ย
Other artistic directors contributed their works for this enticing performance. Andrea Miller, is the genius behind Psลซkhe. As an Ailey II debut, the choreography featured unexpected partnering and complex solo sets to the electronic music of Nicolas Jaar.ย
Lastly, Enemy in the figure is a dance excerpt created by William Forsythe. The self-titled excerpt, originally created in Germany, has been performed in major venues across the globe. Now here on the Ailey II stage, the excerpt showcases the keen dance skills of the dancers on a very fine display.ย
