Charles Murray wrote and directed the film The Devil You Know, which will be released in theaters on April 1st.
The Devil You Know centers around a middle-class family whose boundaries and bonds are tested as they attempt to keep the family whole. The film showcases the struggle between right and wrong as each character’s actions are based on what they feel is best for the greater good. The film takes on conversations about family, addiction, and the justice system. The family’s dynamic offers an authentic and relatable glimpse into what most experience every day. Omar Epps’s character Marcus is a recovering alcoholic and reformed felon trying to get a fresh start. As the film progresses, the tension between Marcus and his brother Drew, played by William Catlett, becomes more evident. Through the choices Drew makes, his actions begin to mirror a path Marcus is familiar with and feels he must act as his “Brother’s Keeper.”
The Devil you Know alludes to the importance of second chances, family bonds, and personal development when maintaining relationships with others and ourselves. Epps and Murray spoke with our correspondent Rebecca Eugene about the film and what viewers will be able to see.
