We stopped backstage before the Thorsun spring/summer 2017 presentation to get the lowdown on the hair looks for the show. Read as we interview the lead stylist as well as Thorsun founder George Sotelo.

AXE: How To Get The Look

The Knockturnal: So what’re you doing here?

Thorsun: So the look is Sunday brunch and pool party – done but not overly done- so with that in mind, we added the Axe ‘Messy Look’ matte gel, and then blow dry that in to get a nice texture and feel to it and depending on their texture, we’re either- if it’s wavy, we take some wave out, but if it’s straight we kind of keep it like that, the main thing is that it’s not too overly done or product-y or shiny so that why we’re using a matte gel.

The Knockturnal: What then after that?

Thorsun: After that, once it’s dry we’re going over it with the ‘Messy Look’ paste. So you blow dry then add it in.

The Knockturnal: Then it’s combed?

Thorsun: Yes, you finger-comb it and run through. That’s it.

The Knockturnal: What about the girls?

Thorsun: Yes, we’re actually using the same product for the girls, the matte gel. The products are pretty versatile. So we’re blowing-drying the gel in so it has a little texture and hold, then go in with the iron, an inch-and-a-half iron, we go back with the ‘Messy Look’ paste just to get some separation in the ends.

Chat with Thorsun Founder George Sotelo

This season introduced women’s wear, and the founder of Thorsun told us, “It’s my second year in business, and in the first year a lot of my girl friends started buying the shorts and getting them hemmed, so they were asking me to develop the prints into swimwear for women.” Talk about being accountable! He’s been able to travel, and being obsessed with the beach, loving Rio, he’s always been motivated by the sea and swim life, from paddle boarding to jumping off boats and playing in the water. For the collection’s prints, he was inspired by the ceramics museum near his home in Mexico, where he’d visit as a child. He introduced shirts this season as well, hoping to keep the collection focused on swimwear for now but moving forward into full ready-to-wear for on-land use. Thorsun has had an incredible amount of success yet, with his designs available everywhere from Bergdorf Goodman to Barney’s. The presentation was lively and fun with models such as River Viiperi posing with guests and enjoying the pleasure of the swimwear. We’re thrilled to see what Thorsun might be diving into next.
