New Music Roundup: Releases You May Have Missed

In this week’s edition of our NMR, we rounded up some of our favorite releases in May. From DubVision to Mindchatter, to Rich Furniss and more, we’ve got something for everyone.

A lucid purveyor of the sounds of the underground, Diamond Dallas Tex is the techno alter ego of hardcore artist Lil Texas. After releasing lead single “Elevate” to critical acclaim in early May of 2022, Diamond Dallas Tex finally unveiled his high-octane debut body of work under his new alias, The Afters. Encompassing Lil Texas’ venture from hardcore to techno, the 4-tracker marks the LA-based producer’s mau5trap and fully techno debut. Explorative, yet uniquely Tex in its entirety, The Afters is a powerful showcase of techno production prowess from the known hardcore producer. This record represents my journey into the world of techno over the past few years,” explains Diamond Dallas Tex on his new body of work. “The 4 tracks gradually increase in BPM to represent the feelings and stages of the underground atmosphere.”

Producer/DJ Nora Van Elken brings a refreshing edge to the global dance music landscape. Celebrated worldwide, Nora’s music inspires crowds from all walks of life. For her latest sonic offering, she tapped prominent Dutch progressive house duo DubVision to deliver a remix of her recent electro-pop anthem, “Satellites.” At the heels of their collaborative track with Martin Garrix, “Backlash,” musical brother pairing DubVision transforms Van Elken’s original into a festival-ready mainstage bop.

Multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer Mindchatter is having a blistering 2022. Following the release of his acclaimed sophomore album, DREAM SOUP, and a headlining North American tour, he continues his expedient upward trajectory with his new collaboration alongside South African house music producer Kyle Watson “Let’s Go Dancing,” a track that pushes Mindchatter’s sound further into proper club-ready territory. Showcasing a hypnotizing instrumental that fuses Mindchatter’s brand of psychological, vocal-driven dance flair with Watson’s driving deep house and techno sonics,“Let’s Go Dancing” blends moody, indie-pop sensibilities with an industrial electronic spin.

With a sound that known no boundaries, Gladkill has a discography that speaks for itself. From dominating dancefloors with sultry, bass-heavy club sounds to captivating various home stereo speakers with his intricate downtempo and melodic material, Gladkill makes music to soothe all ears. In his recently released project – and his debut -, the Cold Comfort EP, he experiments with a myriad of sonic styles and design elements to conjure up his most diverse body of work yet. Across the 5 singles, there is a dynamic blend of moods delivering a feeling where you are being taken on a journey. Yet even though each song has individualistic qualities allowing it to stand out, an undeniable arc ties the EP together.

Miami-based maestro MADEAUX creates music for physical transcendence. A singer, songwriter, producer, and all-around sonic visionary, MADEAUX returns with the sophomore single to his forthcoming album Near Life Experience. MADEAUX plays to a spiritual, metaphysical quality of dance music, shaping songs that are home at the intersection of technology, design, fashion, and quintessential human emotion. A vertically integrated creator, he conceives each project entirely his own from the writing and recording, down to the engineering and artwork. At the heels of his aptly-titled single “Something Real,” he returns to the limelight with “Revolution” – the sophomore single to his forthcoming LP. “Revolution” is a sleek, sophisticated number tethered to a hypnotic house beat. His chromatic vocal instrument rises and falls in tandem with steady rhythms to create evocative atmospheres juxtaposed with a sweltering tempo. A carefully-balanced, full-bodied club classic, “Revolution” is the new vanguard of house music.

With his label signings rapidly picking up, Rich Furniss follows up his May 6th debut on Miami-based house label Global305 via On The Moon EP with yet another heater aptly titled “Summertime (ft. l’Marco)”. His latest blends together several energizing and charming house elements where an old-school spirit aligns with modern 128BPM aesthetics. From the first seconds of the track playing out, a crisp percussion fills the air, and is swiftly followed by the captivating, soulful spirit of  l’Marco’s vocals.  Cleverly designed to ascend a late-night mood in the club to an epic place, “Summertime” has all the hallmarks of a well-equipped house-heater that acts as effective ammo to take a set to a special place. With another label debut right around the corner on June 10th via HouseU, Rich Furniss is on a flow that cannot be stopped.
