Fashion Week may have migrated down South, but Nautica’s latest line kept the city alive.
The Fall ’16 Fashion Show was inspired by the merge of the sea with the city.
The show, at the Skylight Modern Gallery, on W. 27th St., started off with a bang — an extended video of water forming into skyscrapers.
It was fitting for the line’s newest tagline — “Inspired by the sea, designed in the city.”
Of the nearly 40 looks, many were cozy separates of cable-knit and wool while others were more athletic in nature. There were also more tailored work-ready looks like fitted pants and bombers and high waisted trousers. Of course, designer Steve McSween didn’t skimp on the nautical references, as seen in a blue and white striped long sleeve mock turtleneck, puffer bests and short trunks.
And then there were the accessories —two floor length oversized cable-knit scarves, snow boots with the top folded down, beanies with colorful patterns, and stylish leather gloves. He also took inspiration from the slopes, with models donning goggle-like glasses, gloves and even ski jackets.
Standouts included a tan and white color blocked sweater paired with white pants and a white wool peacoat, an asymmetrical sweater with equal parts tan wool, gray cable knit, and black, and a translucent polyurethane jacket worn with cropped pants.
Outerwear also stole the show with oversized puffer jackets, bright wool sportcoats, and a nearly perfect knee-length navy peacoat with a shimmery center.
Wearable as always, McSween’s latest works effortlessly combined his vision of menswear inspired by both the sea (that he’s known for) and the street.
