MoMA PS 1 Is Now Free For All NYC Residents

Living in New York City has its perks.

Everything stays open past 7 (cough DC cough), we have 24/7 transportation despite how annoying it might be (those “world’s fastest trains in Japan are useless if I can’t take them after a night out), and best of all, we have the best slang in the entire world (que loco is that scemo for having the chutzpah to pull that off).

So of course I love being a native New Yorker. And what’s better than using that native New Yorkerness than to take advantage of the arts the city has and go to MoMA PS 1 for free.

That’s right, though a grant from the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation, MoMA PS1 in Long Island City is now free to all NYC residents for a year. Seen as a celebration of NYC artists, the art center will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year.

The grant will allow for free admission to all exhibitions but that does not cover concerts, performances, fundraisers, ticketed events and even more. But as long as you show proof of residency in New York City, you can enter for free during regular hours now until October 11, 2016. So whacha waiting for? Go now.

Catherina Gioino

Catherina "Cat" Gioino is a native New Yorker, a huge movie buff and an amateur pizzaiolo. She currently works in transportation policy in New York, and previously was a breaking news reporter for the New York Daily News, and had stints at MSNBC, NY1, PBS and the Queens Gazette-- and was at The Knock since the beginning. When she's not biking around her hometown of Astoria or testing out the train system of another country, you can find her slinging wine and drinks at a friend's local bar.
