Recently we got the opportunity to sit down and chill with Blvckhaze, to learn about the inspiration behind her new sassy fresh sound. We caught up with the rising pop star in Frankfurt, Germany before her performance at the Caribbean Trade Expo.
Blvckhaze hails from the island of Curaçao, but her sound blends a combination of her unique heritage. She pulls her inspiration, from 90’s dance hall, Papiamento, and, island pop.
“I was always singing in school, church and in groups when I was younger. My family has always been into music. I can remember loving artists Sade and Aaliyah when I was growing up. My music now is a mix of everything from island vibes, dancehall, hip-hop, R&B and more,” says Blvckhaze.
She got her name “Blvckhaze,” after a long night in the studio in Rotterdam, Holland after looking over the skyline and seeing a black haze over the city. Blvckhaze knew she had to leave the university where she was studying law and focus her energy entirely on music. Soon after she met Trevor Pretty of Pretty Boy Records. They immediately formed an undeniable bond. Blvckhaze shortly after relocated to Barbados to record her album with Trevor and the Pretty Boy Team. When Blvckhaze is not on tour she spends her time between London & Barbados.
Check out her or her hit single “SWA”, featuring Arii Lopez. Her EP titled “Glamour Girls” drops Spring 2020.
