If you have no rational fear of smearing food on an all-white outfit, then Le Dîner en Blanc is the event for you. Renowned Iron Chef and Michelin Star recipient Marc Forgione will curate the French-inspired chic picnic pop-up, which made it’s U.S. premiere in New York City eight years ago.
Guests can register for a night of fine dining under the stars at a secret location in the city here. The event, planned for September 17, expects nearly 6,500 guests who will wear their best white after Labor Day. The all-white affair celebrated its 30th anniversary in Paris this June.
Forgione discussed his upcoming role, saying, ““I’m excited to be a part of one of the biggest, most sensational events in the world. I’ve always heard that Le Dîner en Blanc is an unparalleled and revolutionary experience and I can’t wait to contribute some of my signature dishes and inventive flavors to the party,” according to a Dîner press release.
A Tricky Ticket
Guests who register for the wait list are preceded in line by the friends and family of those who have attended previous Dîner events around the world, making it a fairly exclusive social gathering. Some people spend years hoping to get a spot. There are several ways to register on the website, which asks the guest to select a gender during the sign-up process.
The dress-code encourages attendees to break out their best Marie Antoinette look-a-like dresses and powdered wigs, along with fairy lights and elaborately whimsical table settings.
If you manage to land an invitation, you must meet a volunteer at a “departure location” to keep the actual location a secret until the last minute, bring a folding table, two white chairs, a white tablecloth, and secure a picnic basket with white dinnerware.
This year’s event is partnered with local companies Champagne Jacquart and The Knot, along with international partners: Luxury Retreats, Sofitel, and ONEHOPE.
