We caught up with singer/actress Laura Marano at New York Fashion Week.
We spoke with Laura at the Alice + Olivia presentation at Pier 59 earlier this month. The show which was presented by Booking.com was a starry affair. We also spotted Katie Holmes, Amber Heard, Caitlin Jenner, Karrueche Tran, Jillian Hervey, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Kelly Rutherford and Victoria Justice as well. Marano had a busy fashion week. She also attended the Naeem Khan presentation and Nylon’s Rebel Fashion party. Check out our interview below:
The Knockturnal: So what brings you out to the show today?
Laura Marano: I’ve actually been a fan of Alice + Olivia for years and so I was really excited timing worked out. I’m in New York for work reasons and so the show is today and I was like “Of course, let me go.”
The Knockturnal: Tell me about what you’re wearing today.
Laura Marano: I’m wearing Alice + Olivia. I’m wearing the midi dress. I’m obsessed with it. I’m actually very, very, very short. So, I always get a little worried about wearing dresses that are kind of longer than my knees, but with this and pairing it with my Sam Edelman heels, it kind of makes me feel even taller. So, I’m really, really excited about it.

The Knockturnal: So, what are you working on right now that you’d like to share with fans?
Laura Marano: So, actually I have music coming out in a month and I haven’t announced the date yet. And my sister and I produced and starred in a movie and we just sold it a few days ago. We’ve owned the rights to the book for ten years. It’s based on a book called Saving Zoe and it’s dark. The older sister gets murdered, it takes [place] a year after she’s been murdered, the younger sister finds her diary and realizes her sister’s not the person she thought she was and it kind of goes from there. A little bit mysterious. Definitely dark. Kind of tackles really challenging subjects to talk about that we’re hoping that will start a conversation. We’ve teamed up with an awesome organization called Equality Now. And it’s all about getting equality between the genders globally and so, I’m so excited for people to see it.
The Knockturnal: So you’re working together and co-starring with your sister Vanessa Marano. That’s kind of cool, right?
Laura Marano: Yes! Super cool! We actually haven’t done that since we started acting 17 years ago. So, it’s been a long time. So, I’m really excited about it.
The Knockturnal: And for the music, is there a new vibe you’re going for?
Laura Marano: Yes! I like to call it moody pop. Production’s minimal. So, I really feel like I’ve found my voice and I found stuff that I really, really wanna talk about and I’m so excited for my fans to hear it. I’m like really, really excited.
