Hip Hop has never had a hierarchal system, having said that certain figures do rise to where their voices weigh heavier than others.
KRS One is one of few who, through pure merit, found themselves cultural pillars in Hip Hop. With his secondary title “The Teacha” KRS has remained active in recent years, if not musically, offering wisdom on the role and relation of Hip Hop to current events.
It’s a crazy fact realizing that KRS One has been grinding since Hip Hop was a toddler, trying to get its footing in the South Bronx. From Boogie Down Productions to killer solo projects like Return of The Boom Bap and Criminal Minded, The Teacha has outdone himself in respect to the amount and quality of content he’s released.
Returning on this PredatorPr!me produced single, KRS steps to the front of the classroom to pass knowledge on the Drug War. His method of weaving knowledge into rap was and still is unique in its sincerity and ability to not sacrifice any musicality for the message.
Remember how in grade school teachers would try and fit history lessons, etc into raps in an attempt to make it more digestible and “fun”? Only to fail at both? KRS does what those teachers could only wish to do. Before becoming a wise sage KRS was a dope emcee, and that has not been lost in all this time.
“Always Seek Knowledge” – KRS One.
