Comedy icon Kim Wayans recently discussed the highly anticipated release of ‘Scary Movie’ 6, arriving in theaters June 5.
The Scary Movie franchise first launched in 2000, created by Keenen Ivory Wayans and produced by the Wayans brothers alongside Dimension Films. The original film became a cultural phenomenon, redefining parody comedy for a generation and going on to become one of the most successful spoof franchises in Hollywood history. Its sharp satire of horror films turned it into a box office hit and a lasting pop culture staple.
With the return of the franchise now highly anticipated, Scary Movie 6 arrives with renewed excitement from longtime fans and new audiences alike.
During the conversation, I asked if she recognized her impact. Wayans responded with humility, sharing that she is grateful to do what she loves.
She also reflected on a defining lesson from her brother Keenen Ivory Wayans, who told her there is “no vanity in comedy.” That philosophy changed everything, allowing her to fully commit to her characters and shape her comedic voice.
Laughter releases chemicals in the brain that support healing and well-being, and Wayans continues that creative spirit through her YouTube series Still Got It, which is geared toward mature women audiences, blending wellness, humor, and wisdom into great content.
When asked what audiences can expect, she simply said: “Just prepare to laugh out loud.”
Our conversation closed in humor and gratitude ahead of the June 5 release.
