Kid Cudi Announces New Album Summer 2016

Kid Cudi has a new album in the works, but it won’t be the coveted continuation of the Man On The Moon series.

Cudi announced via Twitter he has an album planned for release this summer. In typical Cudi fashion, this announcement came with a barrage of tweets airing out his grievances with the music industry, and venting personal frustrations.

In a recent interview with Billboard Cudi expressed his bout with depression, and conflict with the industry. He was clearly disappointed with the commercial success of his 2015 album Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven:

“I’m thinking, Man, I’ve done all these albums. Where are the people who bought Indicud or the others before? Who have I been making music for? [When an album doesn’t sell well] it makes you question yourself. As an artist, I’m always questioning myself. But this was the first time that I questioned my fan base and if I even have one at all. Who are these people?”

In the same breath, Cudi announced his new album will be free. However, this ironically does come with a cost as it will not be the MOTM3 that fans have been begging for.

“That’s why whatever I do next will be free. And I don’t even feel obligated to do Man on the Moon 3 anymore. As of right now, people should just get that off their mind. That’s not ever going to happen. It’d be different if the first two were platinum. They’re not even platinum! Man on the Moon 1 is like 860,000 sold. It’s hanging on by a thread.”

Cudi’s capabilities as a visionary are impeccable. Since 2008, I along with many fans, was pulled in by A Kid Named Cudi, and can only hope his talent will not go to waste. His creative edge is surely struggling to shine amongst the popular drone of trap beats and catchy hooks, but I have faith he will flourish.
