STYLE360 sponsored by Kia presents indie designers during New York Fashion Week this season including Raul Penaranda and Tumbler & Tipsy.
Raul Penaranda looked into his roots for inspiration this season as his collection carried a heavy Spanish influence. The dresses that he created all flowed with ease and all carried a slight flare at the bottom, reminiscent of a flamenco dancer’s dress. The color palette he chose is perfect for spring and summer as it contained whites with gold accents, sky blues, and a toned down bright orange color. While some dresses carried deep plunging necklines and daring slits, some are simple and conservative in contrast to help tone down the collection and find balance. Penaranda’s collection caters to all women which is not only evident in the necklines as well as the length of the dresses, but also in the selection of models. Some models were sample size and others were curvy to demonstrate that he designs for everyone.
Tumbler & Tipsy by Michael Kuluva is a line for those who want to stand out from the crowd. Much of the collection featured bright firework prints as well as brightly colored animal illustrations. To highlight this aspect of the clothing, the designer chose to cast some Olympic athletes as to model a few pieces to show everyone that standing out is better than blending in. Olympic Gold Medalist Dalilah Muhammad and Olympic Silver Medalist Nia Ali accessorized their looks with medals to show their achievements. Other standout pieces in the show include a pair of daring flamingo printed leggings, and some garments layered with tulle to give the piece that fun tutu effect. Kuluva balanced the daring collection by including some day to day basics like a little black dress, a brightly colored blazer as well as an olive jumpsuit so there’s a little something for everyone in this line. If you’re more of a T-shirt type of person, don’t worry he’s got that base covered too! He debuted some branded T-shirts for those casual and low key days.
