Keke Palmer Talks Her New Film ‘Alice’ And The Importance Of Representation

Keke Palmer is incredibly booked and busy this calendar year. From ‘Alice’ to ‘Proud Family’ to ‘Human Resources’, ‘Lightyear’, and Jordan Peele’s ‘Nope’, Keke has made it a point to show off her range as an actress this year.

Her latest release is ‘Alice’, a new-age slave tale that takes an untraditional spin on your average slave movie. She plays Alice, an ex-slave who runs away and eventually finds out it’s not the 1800s, it’s the 1970s. And with the help of Frank (played by rapper Common), she comes into her own and gets revenge on the family that kept her and her family enslaved throughout these years. Her role in the film displays a side of Keke’s acting that we haven’t yet been privy to. She did an absolutely outstanding job in her role as ‘Alice’, and later in the year, fans will be able to see her take on another serious role as Jill Haywood in Jordan Peele’s latest feature film, ‘Nope’.

In our short interview, Keke expands a bit on her role in ‘Alice’, how important representation was to her, and what it feels like to be that same representation for other young black women.
