Fake News has become part of our lexicon. In a world dominated by flash headlines, the major driver of our attention economy is most definitely our addiction to seemingly fresh news.
Jeremy Scott took note of that and made it fashion. His latest namesake collection includes controversial headlines printed on the pieces. The inspiration comes from New York City’s daily newsprint tabloids. The colour palette he played around with this season is black and white which pretty much stays in pocket with the running theme of “newsprint”. Words like “Tragedy”, “Psycho” and “Scandal” spotted on everything from spangled outerwear to the spring-ish metallic dresses certainly nails home the intended aesthetic. What really caught our attention was the details on models; like black and white manicures and bob wigs topped with white paint to enhance the monochrome experience. Appropriately, the entire show was soundtracked by Prince’s 1981 single “Controversy” an apt audio accompanying Jeremy’s Scott’s vision for F/W 2019.
