Javier Bardem, Jennifer Lawrence To Star In Darren Aronofsky’s New Film

Critically acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky is set to direct his seventh film, with an equally intriguing cast.

It was reported in October that the director was in talks with recent Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence but other details of the film were still being worked out. At the time the actress had been working on Richard Linklater’s The Rosie Project, a story of a man searching for his perfect female companion using science. Although the actress began working on this film in July, after her letter on gender pay inequality went viral, some thought the film didn’t tie in with the her message. However, the real reason for Jennifer dropping out of the project, was to clear her schedule for the new opportunity with Aronofsky.

Lawrence has gone on record to mention her love for the director and his previous works. The director, well known for Black Swan, is now working on a thriller centering on a couple receiving a visit from unlikely guests. The plot may sound familiar, since a barrage of thrillers that revolve around this plotline, e.g. The Guest, Knock Knock, and The Visit have been released recently, but the story will most likely have a deeper meaning beyond the thrill. Aronofsky, afterall, has the unique ability to bring surreal stories to life, which feature edgy themes and gritty presentations.

Aronosky is known to be secretive. The mystery around this film is most likely due the fact that it’s still in pre-production. Known for intricate themes, such as the burden of responsibility, pain of alienation and more, it will be interesting to see the director’s take on a typical thriller trope.

Jennifer Lawrence has been confirmed for the female lead and Paramount Pictures distributing the film (out-bidding New Regency). This week new broke that Javier Bardem has been cast as the male lead for the movie. There was a chatter that Idris Elba would take the part, but he had scheduling conflicts.

The film is set to hit the silver screen in 2017. Stay tuned for more news!
