I love Jada, and not just because I was born, raised, and still live in Yonkers although it probably helps.
I love Jada because of his stubbornness to change in the face of the recent changes in street rap. Personally I’ve never ended up floored by a Jada verse but I’ve never been disappointed. Earlier this year when I heard him on Skyzoo’s “See a Ki” I got kicked into a state of severely wanting a new project from him. That, thankfully, will be a reality as Jadakiss plans to release Top 5 Dead or Alive in the near future.
This new single, “Jason”, featuring Swizz Beats won’t really hold my hunger per say but it’s a good appetizer. Jada brings a strong flow and verses that, like always, I can’t knock. If anything this consistency is a quality stitched to his artistry. I appreciate everything Jadakiss does on this track. Swizz is a different story. It’s been said before, his name is Swizz Beats not Swizz Rhymes, and his verse doesn’t sound too special. It kind of hurts too, knowing how great Swizz’s production is. Regardless it’s a great track and a good preview of things to come from his next album release, which I’m sure will get me so swept up with hood pride that I’ll be shouting Y.O. outside for a solid week.
