Immersive Gay Cabaret ‘Apocalypse Noir’ is a Theater Kids’ LSD-laced Dream

Consider my pink pony clubbed. Apocalypse Noir – an immersive, modern and fully belted drag cabaret – knocked my jock off.

It featured three incredible vocalists lead by Andrew Barret Cox, one of the strongest singers I’ve ever heard. Hayley Moir and Dani Lu round out the trio with chops that would make Jessie J cry in the club.

They perform modern gay hits – ‘Unholy,’ ‘Pink Pony Club’ – dragged up to 11 via thigh and high boots, contours you can see from space, and vocal arrangements that are as dynamic as they are beautiful.

They sing on the bar, in your lap, on the stage, behind the curtain and in your mind for hours after you leave. Highlights included ‘River Deep Mountain High,’ ‘Feelin Good,’ and ‘Judas,’ all of which featured unreal falsetto from Cox, alongside sumptuous harmonies from both the other performers and the crowd.

Marcel Marceau would have loved this show. Despite its maximalist approach, there are real moments of levity and heartfelt delivery. I left feeling lifted, one of those New York nights where everything feels possible.

Speaking of possible they do this show for free, gratis, no money down every single Monday at Balcon Salon. Bring a friend and sit in the front and be prepared to belt your little heart out.

Also nobody told me Andrew wrote ‘Let Loose,’ by Loosey LaDuca. Y’all shoulda led with that!

Bless.
