The cinematic world of the second half of the 2016 looks so, so promising. Check out new movies arriving this year.
The year 2016 has already delivered a tremendous amount of great cinematic features so far. And good news there’s more to look forward to. Here are some of the titles to be released:
- Deepwater Horizon
Mark Wahlberg stars in a new film telling the story one of the most disastrous oil spills in history. Set in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010, movie follows the events of the explosion of the drilling rig. On screen Wahlberg is joined by John Malkovich, Kate Hudson, Kurt Russell, and more. Directed by Peter Berg, the creator of Lone Survivor.
2. Marvel’s Luke Cage
Set to be released on Netflix, Luke Cage will be streaming platform’s third show in the Defenders series. Starring Mike Colter as Luke Cage, story follows the character after a sabotaged experiment which leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin. He becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury. Luke Cage will begin streaming on September 30, 2016.
3. Storks
From the creators of the Lego Movie, new animated film starring Andy Samberg, Kelsey Grammer, Katie Crown, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, and Danny Trejo tells a story of storks who now, instead of delivering babies, work for a internet retail giant. Junior (Andy Samberg), the company’s top delivery stork, is about to be promoted when he accidentally activates the Baby Making Machine, producing an adorable and wholly unauthorized baby girl. 4. When The Bough Breaks
Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall star in a new film by John Cassar. Story follows a young, professional couple who desperately want a baby. After exhausting all other options, they finally hire Anna, the perfect woman to be their surrogate but as she gets further along in her pregnancy, so too does her psychotic and dangerous fixation on the husband. The couple becomes caught up in Anna’s deadly game and must fight to regain control of their future before it’s too late.
5. Arrival
Amy Adams in the role of linguist Louise Banks joins a team of scientists to investigate a mysterious spacecraft. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
6. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
The new film of the Star Wars saga takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. It tells he story of unlikely heroes who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. The cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, and ForestWhitaker. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16, 2016.
7. Bad Santa 2
Billy Bob Thornton returns as Bad Santa, Willie Soke. Fueled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie teams up once again with his angry little sidekick, Marcus (Tony Cox), to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is ‘the kid’ – chubby and cheery Thurman Merman (Brett Kelly), a 250-pound ray of sunshine who brings out Willie’s sliver of humanity.
8. Moana
Dwayne Johnson and Auliʻi Cravalho voice the characters of new Disney movie. The film follows an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity.
9. Hidden Figures
Based on the incredible true story of the brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe movie will be released in January 2017.
10. Sing
Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal optimist—okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel—who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition. Sing hits the theaters December 21, 2016.
Jennifer Hudson, Sterling K. Brown, Malcolm Barrett, Yaya Dacosta, and more attended TCA Summer Press Tour at The Beverly Hilton to discuss their upcoming NBC shows for the Fall.
The event focused on six new releases. Timeless, starring Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett and Goran Visnjic the show follows a mysterious criminal steals a secret state-of-the-art time machine, intent on destroying America as we know it by changing the past.
This Is Us, starring Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia and Sterling K. Brown, follows an ensemble as their paths cross and their life stories intertwine in curious ways, we find that several of them share the same birthday – and so much more than anyone would expect.
Chicago Med will follow day-to-day chaos of the city’s most explosive hospital and the courageous team of doctors who hold it together. They will tackle unique new cases inspired by topical events, forging fiery relationships in the pulse-pounding pandemonium of the emergency room, and through it all, familiar faces from the Chicago police and fire departments will intertwine as this third team of Chicago heroes hits the ground running.
The Good Place follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), an ordinary woman who, through an extraordinary string of events, enters the afterlife where she comes to realize that she hasn’t been a very good person. With the help of her wise afterlife mentor (Ted Danson,), she’s determined to shed her old way of living and discover the awesome person within.
America Ferrara and Ben Feldman star in a hilarious workplace comedy, Superstore, about a unique family of employees at a super-sized megastore. From the bright-eyed newbies and the seen-it-all veterans to the clueless summer hires and in-it-for-life managers, together they hilariously tackle the day-to-day grind of rabid bargain hunters, riot-causing sales and nap-worthy training sessions.
And last, but not least, NBC is assembling an all-star team of Broadway’s finest and most talented creatives for its upcoming production of Hairspray Live!, the network’s latest stage musical following the phenomenal success of The Wiz Live! The telecast will air Wednesday, December 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
