Halloween may be over, but heart-racing, gut-wrenching, zombie-filled movies didn’t end October 31st.
On November 7th, the Knockturnal had the opportunity to attend a special screening of the new Paramount Pictures film, Overlord. Overlord is set in 1944, on the eve of D-Day. The film begins by introducing a group of American paratroopers, bonded together throughout the war. Though you see some men become weak, their mission to defeat the enemy grows stronger. They aim to penetrate the walls of a fortified church and destroy a radio transmitter. As the soldiers approach their target, they soon begin to realize that there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. Making their way to an underground lab, the outnumbered men stumble upon a sinister experiment that forces them into a vicious battle against an army of the undead. Main actors Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo attended the screening as well as director Julius Avery.
This film was incredible. The first few seconds of the film immediately captures your undivided attention, and the intensity and suspense of the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat. In this movie you will feel as if you are experiencing the war with the characters. Your heart will race as they run and flee from enemies, it will jump during the gory action scenes, and it will cry as relationships are formed and broken. The audience screamed, jumped, and shouted for joy harmoniously throughout the movie. As Overlord came to an end, you could hear a synchronized sigh of relief from the audience. People unclenched their fists and took a breath of air as the intense adventure this movie put us through came to an end. This incredible cast helps you connect emotionally with each character in the movie. Jump scares, plot twists, and action scenes are what made this film so great. This movie left the audience in awe.
