Film Review: ‘Keanu’

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele deliver a comedy that makes you laugh until you hurt in “Keanu.”

Taking a gaze at the trailer will tell you that there’s another film hitting the theaters with a crazy premise. Clarence and Rell, played by Key and Peele, get mixed up with a local gang trying to rescue an adorable kitten Keanu. Though unlike most trailers that show all the best jokes in the film and leave the film lackluster in comparison, Keanu delivers.

Key and Peele keep a great flow of one liners and recurring jokes from start to finish as their quest to save Keanu gets stickier as the night goes on. They’re also supported by an equally hilarious cast including Tiffany Haddish, Method Man, Darrell Britt-Gibson and Luis Guzman.

The duo demonstrates their sharp instinct and clearly know how far to take outrageous comedy. They make you care about their characters, and the precious kitten, right from the start making it easy for the viewer to get sucked in to every dramatic twist and turn the plot takes.

Those who enjoyed Key and Peele on their Comedy Central show will also enjoy the film. They created a solid and unexpected plot to maintain the longer form of a film amongst the many jokes. It’s the perfect fix for anyone craving some outlandish comedy to brighten their day.
