The Horizon of Khufu’s virtual reality experience was one word – surreal!
The virtual trip was a personal one for me, being that I had the pleasure of traveling to Egypt a few years ago, and wanted to revisit the magical journey. When I arrived on site in midtown New York City, I was shocked by how huge the venue space was for virtual travelers to explore and freely roam. I immediately knew I was in for a special treat, because my previous VR experiences were always stationary ones, and not ones through which I could literally move through the space.
As soon as the VR experience started, I was immediately blown away by how realistic everything looked, and how it felt as though I was reliving my real life trip, once again. The Giza Pyramids’ entrance and the King’s chamber were spot on accurate. In fact, the experience was created with the helpful insight of Peter Der Manuelian, who is the Barbara Bell Professor of Egyptology at Harvard University.
I got full body chills as my eyes carefully panned the room, and I couldn’t help but pleasantly smile the whole time. As the gorgeous 360 degree views continued, I grew more and more enthralled by the experience, and I definitely recommend this wonderful journey to all wanderlusters.
