Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of speaking with singer, songwriter, and television personality Zonnique.
Many of us know her from T.I and Tiny: The Family Hustle, T.I and Tiny: The Friends and Family Hustle, Tiny and Toya, Growing Up Hip Hop, and the girl group the OMG Girlz. Zonnique’s resume is impressive, especially considering that she is only twenty-four years old. Though some people might associate the songstress with her celebrity parents, Tiny Harris and T.I, Zonnique is a star in her own right and is on her way to becoming her own “boss.” She has been working in entertainment for a little over a decade beginning both her reality television career and joining the OMG Girlz in 2009. It is important to acknowledge Zonnique’s longevity, talent, and determination that has been a part of her career since entering the industry as a young teen. She is a powerhouse with a bright future.
The beginning of Zonnique’s professional life was captured during her first reality television feature on Tiny and Toya which was able to document the formation of the group and the early stages. Though Zonnique continues to be on reality television, working with her family and close friends, she has gracefully transitioned into working as a solo artist.
Zonnique has tapped into her talent as a songwriter and in 2020 she has released two singles “#FTCU” and “Winner” after taking over a two-year break from releasing music. The music not only was worth the wait but gives a preview into what is next for Zonnique. ”
#FTCU” is an uptempo R&B song that will make anyone ready for a night out or these days a zoom party.
While her single “Winner” not only offers “a message to my exes,” but has relatable and empowering lyrics combined with an R&B melody. Her lyrics combined with her vocals create a connection not only to the lyrics but to her as an artist. It is an exciting wait for her new music and projects that she will hopefully release in the near future but whatever is next for the rising star will be worth it.
