Vondie Curtis-Hall portrays Mel and Evan Jonigkeit plays Owen in the psychological horror film directed by David Bruckner.
The Night House follows Rebecca Hall’s character Beth, a widow, who begins to uncover the secrets of her recently deceased husband, Owen (Jonigkeit). As Beth reels from Owen’s death at the lakeside home that he built for her, she tries to keep it together until she no longer can, when the nightmares come. Beth starts searching through her husband’s belongings, on a quest for answers. She winds up discovering strange secrets that lead her to a mystery that she is determined to solve.
Both Vondie Curtis-Hall and Evan Jonigkeit were intrigued by their characters and passionate about portraying them with the guidance of David Bruckner. “What drew me to playing [Mel] was getting to work with David,” Curtis-Hall said. “And the character was ‘how do you thread the needle of this guy who you don’t know is a good guy or a bad guy.’”
“One of the reasons that I took the role was because [Owen] was sort of felt but not seen for a lot of the film,” Jonigkeit said. “There was this sort of looming feeling that he would appear and Bruckner and I had a lot of conversations about what the logic around my character is.”
See The Night House in theaters starting August 20.
