Taylor Sele was still on set, in the middle of filming, when he stepped away for our quick interview.
He’s starring in ABC’s new show, Queens. You may have seen the hundreds of advertisements about the musical drama series, starring Brandy, Eve, Naturi Naughton, and Nadine Velazquez. They play, respectively Naomi (Xplicit Lyrics), Brianna (Professor Sex), Jill (Da Thrill), and Valeria (Butter Pecan), four women who together formed one of the biggest rap groups of the 1990s the “Nasty Bitches”. Turmoil tears the group apart and sets them on different trajectories in life, until an opportunity presents itself for them to reunite in an effort to recapture their former glory as the aptly renamed, Queens.
Sele plays Eric Jones, the group’s former manager. Still a top music executive after managing the Nasty Bitches, he sets the wheels in motion for the women to reunite as a supporting act to his new hip-hop IT girl, Lil Muffin. The season brings drama and turmoil among other things, and Sele’s character finds himself in the middle of it all. I sat down with him to talk about what lies ahead in the season, what it’s like working with four strong women, which musical group was his favorite, and what we should know about his character.
Queens airs on ABC on Tuesdays at 10 pm EST.
