“Solo” no more.Β
Nickelodeon alum Madisyn Shipman released her first single, “Flying Solo,” on July 1, and now, she’s collaborating with NYU Tisch School of the Arts grad Josh Tepper for a duet track. The single, slated to be released this fall, pairs the two rising stars (and former family friends) together to kickstart their music careers.
Below, Tepper exclusively revealed the behind-the-scenes details of working with the formerΒ Game ShakersΒ star, and what fans can expect next.
The Knockturnal: AfterΒ studying at the iconic LaGuardia High School ofΒ Music & Art and Performing Arts, then graduating from NYU Tisch, what inspired you to return to your singing roots?Β
Josh Tepper:Β This is somethingΒ that I always wanted to do, but couldn’t figure out the right project. When Madisyn asked me to go on this journey with her it felt right.
The Knockturnal:Β How did you connect with Madisyn for this collaboration?Β
Josh Tepper:Β Madisyn’s family and my family were friendly and we both always had similar career aspirations. I was always impressed that Madisyn went after her dream at such an early age. A few years ago, I visited Madisyn on the set of Nickelodeon’s Game Shakers and was able to see the magic she brought to that show. The process with Madisyn has been amazing and I hope we can collaborate again in the future.
The Knockturnal: How would you describe your voice and singing style? Which artists do you listen to, and whom do you admire most in the music realm?Β
Josh Tepper:Β I mainly sang opera in high school, as that was part of the curriculum.Β Personally, I enjoy singing pop music and music that has soul.Β I’m a hugeΒ Madonna fan and admire how she had stayed ahead of the trends and doesn’t care what people think. I also love listeningΒ to Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Labrinth, and The Kid Laroi.
The Knockturnal: You also were spotted about town with former RHONY star-turned-real estate agent Kelly Bensimon. How long did you work for the model, and can you speak about what having her as a mentor meant to you?Β
Josh Tepper:Β Β I worked for Kelly as her content manager as well as forming brand partnerships for her. Kelly taught me first and foremost that there is no such thing as a day off and to always be a go-getterΒ becauseΒ you neverΒ know when the next opportunity is around the corner. I have had the opportunity to work at Goop.comΒ as well as with brands Cynthia Rowley and Ilan Bracha, which all taught me that having drive and hard work are the keys to success.

Josh Tepper: I know this sounds crazy, but when I listened to the Β rough version of the song, my English bulldog lifted his head up andΒ had a big smile on his face.
