Nick Barrotta plays Allan in Tyler Perry’s scripted award-winning drama “The Oval.”
Barrotta, whose character is an aide and mentee to the fictional Chief of Staff Donald Winthrop, spoke with our correspondent Rebecca Eugene about becoming a series regular this season. Together, they discuss “The Oval” returning for the mid-season release of season 2 and what fans should expect in the show and from his character. Nick’s character Allan will need to balance the drama surrounding his job at the White House and with his girlfriend Ellie Lyles played by Natasha Ward. His characters progression started off slowly, however as the show continues fans will be able see Allan build his storyline.
Nick provided insight on his career path, which started in broadcast journalism before making his TV debut on “Divorce Court” and eventually working his way up to Tyler Perry and BET’s highest rated scripted drama “The Oval.”. Nick explained what it was like to film during the Covid-19 pandemic and how the cast was able to stay connected during the tumultuous time. Among many topics, he shared that Perry had the crew living at the Atlanta studio, where they were tested regularly and took necessary safety precautions. This experience allowed the cast to grow closer and create a bond, which resonates on-camera.
Check out the mid-season return of Season 2 of “The Oval” on July 20.
