Nadia Litz, Scott Speedman, Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, and Kristen Stewart star in the film Crimes of the Future, written and directed by David Cronenberg.

The film shares the same name as the previous version created by Cronenberg called Crimes of the Future 1970. He describes the first version as a “very low or no budget, underground film that I made in the 1970s…In both cases, it’s an accurate title because both movies deal with crimes of the future. But other than that, there’s really no connection between the two.” The plot focuses on the human species adapting to a synthetic environment which allows them to undergo new body transformations and mutations. Saul Tenser, played by Mortensen, showcases the metamorphosis of his organs with the help of his partner Caprice played by Seydoux. During the demonstrations, a mysterious group tries to use Tenser’s celebrity fame to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.

Crimes of the Future takes on a unique approach to human courtesy and the development of surgery without pain. The film alludes to the concept of altering one’s body past its natural state and using metamorphosis to manipulate the body’s biological makeup. The Knockturnal spoke with the cast about the film and what fans and viewers can expect to see.

The film will be released in theaters in June.
