Malachiae Warren spoke about his life goals and revealed his thoughts on the Black Lives Matter Movement.

When rising star and 20-year-old Atlanta singer, Malachiae Warren graduated in 2014, he didn’t realize that in the next 24 hours, he would get a call that would change his life forever. Motown Records offered the young singer a record deal and the rest was history. Since then, Warren has come out with hit singles that has girls everywhere swooning over him. Warren doesn’t define himself as a ladies man, though, he considers himself to be different than most singers and socially aware.

In the wake of the recent murders by police officers of unarmed Black men, the artist penned a two part letter, sharing his sentiments on Instagram.

You referenced the Black Lives Matter movement in a recent online letter. Do you feel a level of responsibility to address these sorts of social issues on your platform?

Malachiae: I absolutely do. Instead of saying something harsh, instead of following everybody else’s way of approaching things. I felt the need to do things a little things differently. It’s easy to talk negative, but I thought that I’d write a letter that I could possibly keep for a lifetime.

How will these issues affect your music?

Malachiae: I think it will help it. It will let my fans know that I’m an individual and not just look at me like another singer. I’m in touch with the real world, politics, and the things that are going on.

What differentiates you from other rappers?

Malachiae: Staying true to myself. Everybody goes through their own life experiences. In my music, I talk about life experiences that I go through whether it’s with family, friends, different situations. That alone sets me apart from anyone else. My journey is different.

And, you recently got signed to Motown Records right, when did that happen?

Malachiae: Yep! It’s funny because I graduated in 2014, and before I graduated, I was doubtful. I didn’t know exactly where my life was gonna take me. But I asked God to lead me on the right path. The moment I graduated, I kid you not, I got a call from Motown the next day. They were saying they wanted me to fly out.

Oh my gosh! That’s amazing.

Malachiae: Yeah, it was a blessing in disguise. It really led me to believe that anything is possible. Literally the next day they called me – as soon as I graduated.

So, how did you get discovered? Did you have a manager or agent at the time?

Malachiae: I got discovered through my producer Jasper Cameron. There was a girl that wanted me to play the lead guy in her video and she told the main people at the shoot that I could sing. After the video shoot, I got a call from one of the people at the video shoot and it was him, telling me he wanted to work together. He sent me a beat and I recorded something to it. Then was like “Yo, he’s dope. He’s cool,” and he started introducing me to people.

So, Jasper is like a mentor to you?

Malachiae: Yeah, he’s one of those people that I can always come to aside from just the business aspect. he’s like the older brother I never had. He tells me stuff about life.

It’s amazing how you literally went to a music video, met a producer, got signed, and now your life is changed.

Malachiae: Yeah, I tell people all the time, you gotta put your pride aside. If someone invites you to a place where you know people will be there that have the same interest as you, you gotta put your boots on – you never know who you might meet there. If I didn’t show up, I might not be here.

That’s a great point. Do you have any other life lessons that you can share?

Malachiae: Like I said before, stay true to yourself. People are always gonna remember you when you’re being yourself. Not following anyone else, being set in who you are. Stay self motivated. Try not to depend on anyone else. Try to stay focused, and stay true to yourself.

Is there anyone that you would love to collaborate with?

Malachiae: Brian Mcknight, I grew up with his music. Modern day, I wanna collaborate with people from my town, Future, Lloyd, Ciara, people like that.

So speaking of artists, do you have a top five list?

Malachiae: This is not in any particular order, but I’m gonna go with Brian Mcknight, Michael Jackson, Tupac, Jay Z, Chris Brown.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Malachiae: I just see myself more established in my career, on a bigger platform. Hopefully, my music has reached a larger variety of people. I plan to venture out to acting.

You want to be an actor too?

Malachiae: Yeah music doesn’t last forever. I wanna have business ventures that will create longevity. I don’t wanna be 60, 70 years old still dancing on stage.

What sorts of business ventures?

Malachiae: Me and Jasper are collaborating on a production company called Love Life and we wanna sign different producers, and song writers. Once I get established, that’s something I’m looking forward to.

Any upcoming projects to look forward to you from you?

Malachiae: Right now, we’re just focusing on my single out right now ‘Minute Maid‘ and ‘Heard You Was In My City’. I’m always recording and always ready to put out new music.
