Jean Elie and Michael Guayo created the show Send Help which will premiere on ALLBLK on August 11th.

Jean Elie & Michael Guayo

Send Help follows Fritz Jean-Baptiste, played by Elie, whose character is a first-generation Haitian American actor. His character was one of the leading stars in a popular show called This Can’t Be Us, which was eventually canceled. Fritz begins auditioning for multiple projects with the hopes of landing another role as he attempts to maintain his stardom. While trying to progress his career, he must also deal with various personal unresolved issues with himself and those around him. As the plot develops, fans and viewers will be provided with a deeper glimpse into Fritz and his family as they all cope with the loss of a family member. The show also implements moments of humor that balance the relatable aspects throughout the series, allowing for a more digestible experience. Send Help blends various aspects such as family, friends, culture, grief, and character growth to create an intriguing storyline.

The Knockturnal spoke with Elie and Guayo about the concept for the show and what sets this series apart. They also discussed the importance of representation in film and tv for those whose nationality and culture are commonly underrepresented. Elie and Guayo have created programs and initiatives outside of the work they do on and off the screen to offer opportunities to people of color (POC). This allows the conversation of diversity to be expanded upon and provides POC access to spaces that will assist in bridging the gap.
