We were fortunate enough to score an exclusive interview with Krysta Rodriguez, star of NBC’s new show ‘Trial & Error.’
We caught up with her at the New York premiere of Anne Hathaway’s new film Colossal at AMC Lincoln Square presented by Fiji Water.
Congratulations on the new show! Tell me a little bit about how you got involved.
Krysta Rodriguez: I auditioned and I was the last cast member to be cast, so I got the audition and saw John Lithgow, Jayma Mays, Sherri Shepherd, Steven Boyer, and I thought “Oh god, I have to get this job.” And I did. And I loved the script, I laughed out loud, it was one of my favorite scripts I’ve read in years. I can’t believe I get to do it.
Tell us a little bit about your character.
KR: So I play Summer Henderson, who is the daughter of Larry Henderson, who is an accused murderer in a small town. He’s also lovable and you root for him to be innocent as does Summer because she really believes he is. He keeps putting his foot in his mouth and doing the wrong thing and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He’s just a lovable accused murderer—the basis of any good comedy.
How’s it working with John?
KR: He’s amazing. He’s just perfect. He’s perfect in the role, he’s the sweetest man and so dedicated to the work and knows how to get it done and get it done in a fun way.
How is it to rejoin your NBC family?
It’s really great. I love working for NBC and I would work for them forever. Hopefully I’ll get to.
What’s a fun story from set you’d like to share?
I just always love when we make John laugh because the corners of his mouth start to twitch and you can tell he’s not going to make it through the take and that is the best. When you feel like you’ve made him laugh, it’s the best feeling ever. We have blooper after blooper of him just not being able to say his lines because we’re laughing so hard.
Where do you guys film?
We film in L.A. at the Warner Brothers lot. It’s really cool because it’s very historic. We shot on the same stage that they filmed ‘Casablanca’, so it’s really cool.
An after-party followed at Lincoln Ristorante. Colossal hits theaters on April 7.
