Exclusive Interview: Lil Yachty’s Signee Jban$ Talks Music and “Kids In Space” Album

Entertainment and music is always changing depending on it’s avenue and what’s considered current.

No one can ever predict the mass amount of fluctuation, saturation and all types of changes “a scene” goes through. But it never stops the flood of artists from entering the ring, from which a few end up at top of the chain. JBan$ is one of those name and who’s hardly new to the game. He first caught our attention 2 years ago when he signed to Lil Yachty’s label. Ever since the rapper has been steadily dropping music. He collabed with his label boss on “Walked in Ready” which also featured Lil Pump. After 2 years of collaborating with known names, Jban$ popped off with “Get That Bag” two months ago which has been getting a lot more attention as it highlights Jban$ ability to make high energy bangers.

In hopes of getting to know Jban$ a little better, we got a chance to speak to him about himself and whats next for him in the music world.

The Knockturnal: Are you more of an introvert or extrovert?

Jban$: Extrovert.

The Knockturnal: Did you always want* to be an artist?

Jban$: Yeah, growing up I always wanted to be some type of artist.

The Knockturnal: Growing up in Historic Savannah, Georgia, how was it like for you? Family wise and music wise?

Jban$: In Savannah, everybody knows each other, I was aways with my family so we are all really close. Camouflage music played a major role in Savannah at that time.

The Knockturnal: How is southern music scene different from back then?

Jban$: Back then all I used to listen to was Camouflage and the Hot Boys etc. Now the southern sound has elevated and is more diverse.

The Knockturnal: How did the whole Lil Yachty co-sign come by?

Jban$: Me and Lil Yachty grew up together; that’s my brother.

The Knockturnal: Do you have any new music coming with him this year? and like in general?

Jban$: Yes, I have “Pop” Remix otw and we have a few other songs coming.

The Knockturnal: Have you given any thoughts to touring?

Jban$: Fasho, touring is a must. I’m ready to be on tour with an artist I respect as soon as possible.

The Knockturnal: Who would you love to work with?

Jban$: I want to work with someone like Shawn  Mendes or Justin Beiber. I want to broaden my fan base and reach another demographic.

The Knockturnal: Everyone has that one favorite 90s jam, what’s yours?

Jban$: My favorite 90s jam would have to be “mo money mo problems”.

The Knockturnal: What are some of your favorite brands? and bands?

Jban$: Right now, my favorite brands would have to be: Sicko, Prada, and Chanel.

The Knockturnal: What inspires you?

Jban$: My family. Knowing that I have to provide for them is my biggest inspiration.

The Knockturnal: Whats a good studio session and what is a bad studio session (if it exists)?

Jban$: A good studio session for me is when I make at least 2 songs that have potential to be released. A bad session is not getting anything done.

The Knockturnal: If you were to be given a video game challenge, which video game would you pick?

Jban$: I would choose either 2k19 or Apex Legends. Those are my two favorite games at the moment.

The Knockturnal: Whats a perfect beat in your opinion?

Jban$: A perfect beat in my opinion is any beat that makes somebody move, as soon as you hit play.

The Knockturbnal: 5 Goals in 2019

  1. Go on tour.
  2. Lock in the studio and master my sound + craft.
  3. Drop another project
  4. Shoot at least 10 videos
