In a time in the (not so distant) future human kind is forced to face the damage they’ve put the Earth through.

And the man chosen to fix the damage? Jake Lawson (Gerard Butler), the architect of “Dutch Boy”- a satellite structure created to override Mother Nature under the power of man. But absolute power corrupts absolutely and when malfunctions with “Dutch Boy” lead to catastrophes on Earth it’s up to Lawson, his brother Max (Jim Sturgess) and White House Secret Service operative (Abbie Cornish) to solve the mother of all mysteries before the mother of all storms hits.

The Knockturnal got to sit down with the cast and director/writer of Geostorm, read our exclusive interview with Gerard Butler below:

Nicolette Acosta: Out of all of these natural disaster storms, what is the one that would send you running in the other direction?

Gerard Butler: They would all send me running in another direction…

Nicolette Acosta:  As they should…

Gerard Butler: As they should… I actually find, some of them, like to see a Tornado, I’ve actually seen one, but I often imagine, I’d love to get quite close to them, cause I think they are amazing. But the one that I’d like to be furthest away from are Tsunamis, they are freaky, because they just wipe – I mean, there is nothing left after a Tsunami. Everything else there is a way you can get around it. It’s so…

Nicolette Acosta: Devastating…

Gerard Butler: Yeah, devastating, that’s the word.

Nicolette Acosta: Actors normally pull from their own experiences to put in to whatever roles they are doing. What do you pull from when you are literally being launched into space to stop the mother of all natural disasters?

Gerard Butler: It’s a very good question, what I pulled from was the first time that I was ever launched into space, trying to stop this natural disaster, and I went, “God, the similarities here are uncanny, really?” Therefore it just came to me and it was fine

Nicolette Acosta: No wonder you got the part, you can relate to this!

Gerard Butler: Dean [Devlin], I remember when I was younger, and we created a science that stretched out around the planet, and then it all went wrong, and I had to fix it, because I was the guy that built it, its so amazing, and he went yeah, “you’re the guy!”

Nicolette Acosta: When you went up into the space station, to prep for this role… No, but if you went on a similar mission, and you could only bring three things with you, what would you bring?

Gerard Butler: I hate that I say this but my phone, just cause there is so much on it, there’s even music on my phone… What else would I want? Probably fresh underwear… And maybe one book.

Nicolette Acosta: What book?

Gerard Butler: I knew you’d ask that…

Nicolette Acosta: Well if you’re gonna say a book!

Gerard Butler: Stealing Fire. Stealing Fire. Its about… do you know stealing fire?

Nicolette Acosta: I do know Stealing Fire, I’m a nerd, I love books… Interesting choice, I think that it’s very apropos actually. What’s the biggest message you want people to walk away from watching Geostorm?

Gerard Butler: There are a lot, but ultimately if you were to look for the thru line that ties them all up together. It’s always about getting over our self-interest, and learning to work together, so it’s like two brothers working together, guy learning to be a father, you know, it’s about coming together, whatever aspect that is. Whether it’s the government, or scientist themselves, it’s kind of like the inspirational note within this movie, in saying in whatever level it is, it’s about us thinking more from a soul level and coming together.

The film is now playing!
