Season two of Tyler Perry’s “The Oval” will have viewers at the edge of their seats anticipating what happens next to America’s favorite first family.
Ed Quinn plays the President, “Hunter Franklin,” and compares working on the series to “winning the jackpot.”
“I love how it contained it is. I love the upstairs, downstairs aspect of it. I love the family drama of it. I love that every once in a while, like in season two, politics will start to seep in but also recede like the tide which is all of these family dramas.”
Kron Moore, plays the First Lady or “Victoria Franklin” who stirs the pot in plenty of the explosive scenes. Moore says the character “Maleficent” inspired the development of her role.
“It’s been fun to play a villain. I haven’t had the opportunity to do that and so it’s a complete departure from anything I’ve ever done. Victoria is a circus in a half.” Representation is key, one of the reasons Kron also enjoyed playing the First Lady.
“The optics are important. Even though Victoria is all kinds of crazy, it’s important to see an intelligent, poised black woman in power.”
Behind the scenes, Tyler Perry made headlines for his covid protocols in 2020 while filming on a closed set, something that made Ed Quinn proud.
“Everybody did whatever they needed to do to be able to get in the bubble, stay safe. Once in the bubble there was social distancing and masks and protocols and we had zero instances. It was historic and humbling and really made me very grateful.”
You can catch season two of “The Oval” on BET on February 16th.
